DC has overpowered Superman so much over the years that he's essentially become uninteresting. It takes a really good writer/artist team to tell a good Superman story. Most of them are garbage.

They were hokey for sure but coming up with them was still pretty creative. Superman King of earth comes to mind. Or this beauty:

Since Hyperion actually is Superman, he could at least fight him to a standstill... and since both Hulk and Thor have beat Hyperion..

Superheros can never defeat each other. No matter if Spiderman is fighting Thor-it will come out a draw then they'll shake hands over the misunderstanding and go after the bad guy.

When this comes up, I always think of one of my favorite, if not one of the greatest, scenes from a comic.

Odin enlarging to 1000+ feet tall , headbutts Galactus in space and sends him crashing to Earth.
