Great job posting these giants, Joe. I'm enjoying the show and your research! 893applaud-thumb.gif

One difference in the various printings of Dennis in Hawaii that may have slipped under the radar is the copy block on the front cover midway down the right edge. The original printing said "100 Pages! All New Stories!. Games! Puzzles! Songs!"

The first Halden reprint (still numbered # 6) says "Congratulations 50th State" and now this reprint which changes the copy to read "A Visit to the 'Aloha' State!"

Just curious - does the page count remain at 100 or are later reprints abridged?

Dennis in Hawaii #6 (all printings), #18, and #30 all have the exact same text and are 100 pages. Later on the comic will be reprinted in issue #68 with new stories in the front and the old Wiseman / Toole stories in the back.

Next up is...

Giant #31. All Year ‘Round

New Stories: January, February, March, April, May, June, Dennis Calendar, July, August, September, October, November, December

Publisher: Fawcett, Summer 1965

Note: All Wiseman art

This comic, like many of the ones posted around it, is a near-perfect file copy. I bought these from Jay Maybruck when he was running Sparkle City Comics back in the 1980s.

I have always considered this to be one of the most beautiful comic covers I have ever seen. The Wiseman art within this is Wiseman at the absolute top of his game. And, yes, this is another file copy...

Found another cool tribute to Hank Ketcham and Dennis on eBay. This one obviously is a homage to Ketcham after his death in 2001. Info from the auction says:

"I am offering the original drawing of an editorial cartoon on the topic of Dennis the Menace creator Hank Ketcham. This cartoon was drawn by nationally syndicated and award winning cartoonist Jeff Koterba. It originally appeared in the Omaha World Herald in 2001. The cartoon shows Mr. Wilson and Dennis at the grave site of Hank Ketcham...Jeff Koterba is one of the bright young editorial cartoonists in America today. He drew sports cartoons for the Kansas City Star in the late 1980's. Since 1989 he has been the editorial cartoonist for the Omaha World Herald. In 2002 he was a finalist for the "Reuben' award which is the Oscar for editorial cartooning and is presented by the National Cartoonists Society. In 2000 he was runner-up in the National Headliner Awards. His cartoons are syndicated and have been featured in national publications including Newsweek, USA Today, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune and the LA Times."

The cartoon will appear in the following post...

Fantastic, I don`t think I`ve ever heard of this one. Would love a chance to read the story.

Joe, the squarebound file copies you`re showing are absolutely stunning. The spines look so immaculate! You should consider slabbing a few just to get some stuff into the census.

Giant #37. Television Special

Reprints Giant #22

Publisher: Fawcett, Spring 1966

786160-Giant37.jpg

Stunning copy, wonderful cover! I always loved how Dennis fought so desperately to stay up late to watch TV, and those issues where the exhausted parents or babysitter have collapsed in front of the TV and Dennis is happily wide awake and watching with root beer in hand.

Tim, the California issue is one of the absolute finest Dennis comics, as is the tv special. I also really enjoy the actual tv episodes those stories were based on. As far as I can tell, there are no plans to release the old tv show on dvd. Too bad...

Giant #42. In Hollywood

Reprints Giant #7 and #23

Publisher: Hallden, Summer 1966

Notes: Exact reprint of #7 except four black and white cartoons are on the insides of the front and back cover. They are different cartoons than appear on #7 (2nd printing) and same as #23. Back cover displays ad for Giants #38 and #40. This is the fourth printing of this story.

I love the blazing colors on this file copy. Imagine if you had a Marvel or DC squarebound in this shape and how much it'd be worth. Yet, how many of these Dennis books are in this kind of shape?

Publisher: Fawcett, Winter 1966

Note: No Wiseman art.
