The purpose was $$$$$$$$ just like all the other ridiculous Star Wars minis.

I have liked the Star Wars stuff they have been putting out. Shattered Empire seemed like the weakest, but certainly not bad. The couple introduced during the mini is one of the X-Wing pilots parents in the new movie, but I forget the exact name.

Read the 1st 3 issues and didn't like it. Skipped on the fourth.

 

It's beyond obvious that they are prepping fans for the future with new characters. Which is understandable because Hamil and clan are going to be ancient pretty soon. My biggest issue is that Star Wars was fun due to the odd creatures/characters. But most of the new characters just feel like a human you'd meet off the street. Which isn't that unique or interesting. Where are the new characters/creatures like Boba Fett, Chewbacca, Jaba, etc.

But to answer your question..the movie will have creatures. No one has seen it or knows too much about any yet...
