The serial number definitely looks like it was cut and pasted or something over the label. And bars in the barcode aren't straight. They seem very low res.

Hello, this is the eBay seller. I'm selling books for a friend under his account because he needed to liquidate. We are not underhanded dealers. Infact, he bought this years ago from a dealer on eBay. Both of us, like so many, others trusted the label. Needless to say, he's upset and we're going to go after THAT seller. In the meantime, I will GLADLY and quickly refund your money. There was no malice planned and I'm sorry that I didn't see it.

Sorry you got snookered. So, is does the case show signs of tampering? Any idea how this was done? Was the entire label replaced, or did someone manage to put a fake serial and barcode over the real serial and barcode?

After looking at it closely, the things the other members pointed out were there. There was a break in the consistency of the color on the label around the "white pages" and another number was actually photocopied onto the last digit of the serial number. It's pretty upsetting to know that this practice is taking place because a large part of grading a book is to make sure no one tampered with it. I'm going to go through all of my CGCs now and look at them with a closer eye.
