Time payments question? should I handled it differently? UPDATE!!

Here's a related question...

Do you allow returns on time-payment purchases?

Do those returns get full refunds (including deposit, which was a deposit on completion of payment, which was achieved)?

If something would be wrong with the comic? yes I would give a full refund except for the 20% non-refundable deposit

Gabe,

If you want to be in business but don't have a natural knack for it or lack experience you should at the very minimum educate yourself on what is expected.

Oak is right...simple outlines (most of which are obvious -like stipulating to customers ahead of time what the rules are) that protect both you and the customer are pretty much a must.

If you continue to make simple mistakes your business will lose credibility quickly. Most people extrapolate their opinions and base their judgements on a business based on how it conducts itself and in a small hobby it doesn't take many mistakes for a business to lose credibility, whether you are honest or not.

Have you taken any business courses?

Pretty condescending advice it would seem

Roy does make good points even though it's a bit harsh because I do need to clearly state my terms before making such a offer the good thing is I can still turn this into a positive thing with this buyer :)

I didn't think anything Roy said was condescending and/or harsh at all. He got straight to the point, in a nice way. He made excellent points and all of them are things you need to consider if you want to keep this up.

Sorry about the headache on this deal. Nobody should be making time payments on a $75 book. Like you said, you'll learn from this one.

But, Oak and Roy are 100% correct. You need to pull back for a minute, get some stuff sorted out on your end. If you don't, you're going to end up in a real sticky situation.

Yes I've been thinking about it so here's what I think about doing

I'll ask him if he's sure about the comic and when he'll think he'll pay and if he says he can't pay it I'll give him back the refund and just block because at the point it would look bad on my side and before I do time payments again I'll lay it out clearly and one thing I'm starting to finally get is communication.

That doesn't seem right. If the comic is messed up I would think they get it all back. My assumption is the "non refundable" part is more aimed at if they want to cancel the sale.

At the rate of $75 a comic, you only have 13,332 comics left to sell at that price to reach $1,000,000!

I thought the goal was to buy and sell A million dollar comic, not a million IN comics?

yes my goal is to buy and sell a million dollar comic but harvey is right I do need a million dollars to buy a million dollar comic ;)

If only there were places one could buy comics and not pay full retail for them.

I would not have entered into the time payment option at all over that amount of $75.00 and instead would have told the buyer I would hold the book for a couple of weeks and he can pay me in full then. If he doesn`t pay as per the agreed time frame the book is open to any.

If the guy can`t come up with $75.00 to buy a comic in 2 weeks he has no business buying comics in the first place which is of course just an opinion.

Agreed. No business buying comic books.

For $75, a time payment is not an option for me. $750-$1000 perhaps; $1001+ for sure I'd do it
