DocDave Frazetta Auction

Someone just sent me a link to this topic. Just to clarify things: The entire catalog of 200+ pages will be my collection exclusively. This includes art, signed and inscribed books, signed and inscribed photos, movie posters, portfolios, everything. I wrote the whole thing to include narrative context for the better pieces. This gives a glimpse into their origin and significance. It will a very fine production and well worth having. Everyone involved in the project is a big Frazetta fan. There will be other art by Foster, Bok, Williamson, Herriman, Krenkel, and others.

I just turned 65 and it was just time to sell. Many pieces I have Owned for decades. Time to share the treasure.

I am not quitting collecting, just scaling down. There are still pieces I want to own.

The emphasis of my collection is on pen and brush india ink art. I always preferred owning a great drawing over a mediocre oil. After writing about Frank for 35 years most people know my priorities.

The catalog should be out sometime in early November. Check my web/blog site for updates. I plan to post a short video there in the next couple of days talking a bit about Frank.

Thanks for the interest!

Ah, I think a lot of us were under the impression that your whole collection was going to be in the auction. Thanks for the correction.

Yes, the whole collection is being sold. Make no mistake. I am keeping my portrait that Frank did. Every other piece of art is on the block. However, I am not stopping the act of collecting. There are still pieces I want to find and own. Many originals have been unseen for fifty years. Even I do not know who has them. Everything comes out eventually.

I did upload the video I mentioned. See it at the link. Just a few spontaneous thoughts about Frank.

Hey, Dave! The preview of the catalogue is amazing. I am THRILLED your narratives are in there. You're a good historian and the tales you tell are radical, in that they're going to turn some established narratives on their heads.

Also I don't know if you know this, but you're going to make a lot of money. I just thought someone should tell you that. You're welcome.

It is currently being fully assembled. I do not have any inside ifo on when the online catalog will come up. I would assume sometime in very early November. We are still over two months from the actual auction.

Thanks again for the kind words!

Interesting...I don't know if I've ever seen an online/catalog auction where you couldn't actually see some of the lots unless you show up in person and with photo ID.

I explain the whole situation here:

http://www.fritzfrazetta.blogspot.com

Beyond my control. We are not living in Europe. We are living in a cultural climate dominated by rampant puritanism. Everyone is offended by everything these days and the internet turns their self-righteous indignation into a degraded form of truth.

Frazetta would not be pleased.

All the best,

Dave

Loved the videos, Dave. Great commentary, very insightful (glad to know that not everyone is nostalgia-based in their collecting habits).

I remember seeing some of those Frazettas being offered in the Russ Cochran auctions, many years ago.

Hi Terry!

Frank liked all the great classic illustrators. But he never spent a lot of time talking about them. He said that he left all that to Al Williamson and Roy Krenkel. He would rather talk about guns and cameras and women!!

Thanks for the kind comments on the videos. I have three more left to post. It's always fun to talk about something one loves!

Cheers!

Dave

You need different lawyers! The benefit of not showing the erotic images in the online catalogue is more people will come to the viewings. Will all the art be there? This is a fantastic once in a lifetime auction and I can't wait to come to NYC and check them out. Hopefully, place a few bids too. This stuff is better than viagra. Are the catalog's available for purchase?
