How about one Happy (Event) thread per poster per day?

Instead of fixing things that are not problematic to the vast majority of members, why not focus on things like slow loading pages.

Have a poll. See which of the two the members have a bigger problem with and fix that one.

That's assuming that they aren't both being looked at, of course, which isn't true. We've upgraded the database drive to an SSD, and are making some other DB changes on Tuesday.

At some point, the performance issues may come down to inefficient code in the boards software. We will not fix that directly because:

1. Custom changes to product code generally get you into trouble for a variety of reasons.

2. We're currently evaluating board replacement products, which would make any significant effort on this product a poor use of time and energy.

If you like posting happy birthday or anniversary to a bunch of people, ok. But what about posting one thread like:

Happy Bday! - X, Y, Z!

It's like selling comics on the marketplace... you don't put one per thread, you group them a bit.

Thoughts?

I like the creative thinking. It's much better than one single thread for everyone's birthday.

But are we going to do the same with:

- Comic Sales posts or commentary about sellers/selling (e.g. Mile High, Mycomicshop, Comiclink, Heritage)

- Comic Purchase posts including complains about buying experiences

- Comic Hobby History posts

- Fun events such as sending around comics, action figures or other goodies to multiple forumites

- Any statue discussions, whether comic, sci-fi, fantasy genre-based

- Feedback on CGC, Collectors Society or performance of the site posts

Like Sha had pointed out...

I read that some people object to having the BD threads bump precious real estate. I never notice, because I just look at the Active list, never just one forum.

However I did take a quick look at what would be bumped out of the llimelight. I ignored the Stickied threads, they are always at the top.

Has the dissolution of the Locked point chhread let to the increase in Nonsense.

There's a key thread!

Ooh, I almost forgot" I wanted to say (sorry Slym;)

I'm sure I've missed a few...but I'm not exactly sure what prime real estate is being ruined by saying something positive?

I went back about 3 pages. I'm sure if I went back further there would be a few more threads complaining about customer service. I know another board member passed away, and I'm sure that someone else is looking for advice to sell a collection.

Happy Birthday whenever your's happens to be and have a lovely day;)

...it is rare the birthday threads is overwhelming CG with more than 2-4, on average. So if we are looking to help clean up CGC, may as well go for the overall challenges.

I agree with this.

A couple people have been posting large amounts of these (happy event) types of threads just to cause trouble/seek attention. They're getting out of control.

I agree with that as well. It isn't making anything better, even drawing attention to the "problem" as it were.

But, like anything else I don't want to read, I just skip them and move along.

:)

Then perhaps the birthday threads (whatever format or presentation) belong in the Water Cooler.

So having multiple threads on the same topics are more in line with what is intended for CG than recognizing a board member's birthday? That seems very one-sided, as we can have multiple topics about complaints concerning eBay transactions.

How does that help CG encourage dialogue for most?

One is an easy fix one is a hard fix. You don't for example stop pursuing all traffic infractions until all the murderers are dealt with.

How about one Happy XXX thread per poster per day?

Whoa dude! I don't know what you guys are looking at in the CGC World Headquarters but let's keep the porn out of Comics General!

Ok, maybe I rushed to judgement. Bring on the porn.

Would that go for any thread where the main topic was a member? There are a few of those.

There are threads frequently in CG that are off topic and thus should be moved to the Water Cooler, so yes.

Sure there are some but let's not confuse these Happy (Event) congratulatory threads with actual discussion threads where there IS a topic for discussion....not just a bunch of "attaboy" posts.

Its either off topic or it isn't. The amount of discussion doesn't change that.
