The Blind Sword Pig is based on Zatoichi the movie character, but this is one case where I love the original more than Stan's take on the character. I can recommend a few titles if anyone is interested.

Recommend away. thumbsup2.gif

The Zatoichi series and the lead actor were so popular there were 26 films and close to 100 TV episodes from 1962 to 1989. The star is the brother of the lead actor in the Lone Wolf & Cub series, which, in my opinion is not nearly as good. The Zatoichi series contains it share of action, but not the bloody, leg-amputating type of Lone Wolf. There is such a strong emphasis on good stories and strong characters that 3 ladies that have watched the "The Chess Expert" have very much enjoyed it. (I don't know that I would recommend all of the films in the series for a female audience, but figured I'd point out one that you could watch with a date.)

The stories are set in the Edo period of Japan circa 1750 - 1800 and, like with Usagi, you get a chance to learn a bit about Japanese life and culture. I haven't seen any need to watch them in order as there's no complicated continuity. I haven't seen the first four films in the series. All except the first 3 are widescreen and in color.

#12 Zatoichi and the Chess Expert is an excellent entry in the film series and one that I recommend for most guys and gals.

#8 FIght Zatoichi Fight good for guys and gals.

#15 Zatoichi's Cane Sword

#10 Zatoichi's Revenge

I believe they have these on Netflix. For purchasing, I generally find the best prices at the link below:

They don't charge for shipping and there's no minimum order amount.

Thanks for the picks. I will check out the ones you recommended. Luckily for me, the video store in my town has the most amazing and comprehensive selection I have ever come across. To give you an idea, they have a Mexican horror section...with at least 75 different DVDs. I would be shocked if they didn't have any of the above.

For anyone who cares, the name of the store is That's Rentertainment in Champaign Illinois. I think they have stores in other college towns as well.

Rent Alucarda!! headbang.gif

That is why I like these boards. Mention something as esoteric as Mexican horror and someone pops up with a recommendation! 893applaud-thumb.gif

I will check it out....

Great topic! thumbsup2.gif

Here are mine (Note: I am excluding the 'uber-keys' from consideration):

Gold - I'm not a GA collector, but I'd say that Detective #31 is my favorite GA book. Who doesn't love that cover?

Atomic - Toss up on this one. Either Crime Suspenstories #22 or The Perfect Crime #18.

Silver - Too many to choose, but I'll go with FF#5 followed closely by Showcase #34.

Bronze - Batman #227 is the pick since I don't have a copy (yet!). I'd really like to own an X-men #94 as well.

Copper - Miracleman #1 (Gold variant) and Miracleman #1 (Blue variant)

Modern - Sandman #8 (w/ Karen Berger editorial) and LOEG #5 ("Marvel Ad")

Modern - Sandman #8 (w/ Karen Berger editorial)

Signed by Gaiman, unsigned, or doesn't matter? Since they were advance copies for an in-store signing, I believe that most of them are signed.

What's the nature of the editorial? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Embarassing as it may be to admit, I have no idea. blush.gif

It's just a book that (as long as I can remember) has always been broken out in the guide as is extremely hard to find. I've always wanted one.

From Overstreet: Limited ed. (600+ copies?) has Karen Berger editorial and next issue teaser on inside covers (has indicia)

It's an extremely popular series, but guides low as it's been reprinted so many times. It's relatively easy to assemble a run if you are trying. So this particular issue is THE book to have for Sandman collectors.

I'm also embarassed to say that I don't know either foreheadslap.gif, and I have one. 893whatthe.gif I'll try to take a picture of it and post it later tonight or this weekend.

I picked it up for the same reason as Chrisco wants one...I liked Sandman a lot, and this is a really tough book to find. Luckily for me, the signing was in San Francisco, so I eventually picked one up in the early 1990s.

That's it? Kinda disappointing, don't you think?

Still, thanks for the scan! thumbsup2.gif

A self-serving plug for the mag?

Kinda like the Little Orphan Annie secret decoder ring in "A Christmas Story".
