Gil Kane cover appreciation thread

Due to the shockingly insufficient amount of respect given the man during the Spidey 98 / GL 76 fracas, I wanted to start this thread to remind us all that whatever his warts as an interior artist, his covers were *top notch.* He could compose a single image like few comic artists and that shines through. At least one person called him an "acquired taste" but IMO its more of a "realization" that his covers were darn good which can only be understood after repeated viewings. They aren't necessarily the shiniest images always, but there is power in their composition and execution that makes them stand the test of time where others fade.

 

I have no list of his covers and I am just pulling a few from memory. Please feel free to add your own pics to this celebration of his greatness :acclaim:

I was "acquired taste" and I stand by it. But good examples. Except the two Amazing Adventures and Defenders 22. Ugly. IMO.

 

Really, I love the defenders 22! :o To me it conveys the power in that punch that's about to come like few covers do!
