Best Good Girl Art covers

9 posts in this topic

In another thread (golden age pricing) the topic came up of the best GGA covers

of the golden age and I thought I'd take a stab at getting it started -- although

I'm sure I've missed a lot of covers. So of these, which are your

favorites? Which covers are missing? What's here that shouldn't be?

You're brave, gozer, by creating the first post on this. Initially I wasn't going to reply as I usually hate these types of threads as they often get into useless arguments. What changed my mind was having to look up some of the covers -- I wasn't remembering them just from the Title/Issue #. The more I looked, the more I realized that you can't lose with this particular topic. At worst, you spend a lot of time looking a great good girl covers -- and it's hard to consider that a waste of time!

Here are a few gentle criticism/suggestions:

All Top: I personally perfer the Kamen on the All Top 8 to the Bakeresque All Top 16.

Black Cat: When you start including super-heroines, you have a much broader scope of covers to consider. I'm not a huge fan of Elias's good girl covers, I would probably include more Baker covers over this one.

Blue Beetles are wonderful, but perhaps more for the Baker interiors than the cover. 48 to 52 are really nice. The 54 is equally nice but not really better. I think the lack of the bra-strap on the back and what that implies is the hook for that cover. (OT: I never really noticed before how the artist drew the hair down the back on the wrong side when depicting the gal's image in the mirror.)

Capt Science: Several of those covers are very cool. Science Fiction and babes! Sweet!

You could consider adding Clair Voyant 3 & 4 to the list.

Cow Puncher 2: Very nice. 4 - 7 are good covers as well, though not quite as impressive as 2.

Dagar: 23 very nice! The 15 looks nice in Gerber but didn't when I saw the comic in person. The gal crudely drawn.

Earthman: Babes&Sci-Fi again. Definitely among the skimpiest of costumes.

Exciting: I think 59 is clearly the best of that series.

More later...

If you are only going to have one Jo Jo cover listed it should be either #11 or #25, not #21.

And maybe add Brenda Starr #14, Claire Voyant #4, Seven Seas #6 (not #3),

Perhaps we should just say Seven Seas #3, #4, #5, and #6?
