Please vote for your 20 least favorite covers.

****It's getting harder, folks. Last round saw a lot of really great covers go bye bye. :hi: ****

Remember, for this contest, vote off your least favorites.

The poll is at the bottom of this post. The goal is to determine the greatest Jerry Grandenetti cover ever made. You decide what makes a cover "great". To quickly reduce this to the best of the best covers, we will be voting off our 20 least favorite covers from the list provided. There are a total of 103 covers to start from.

Remember, we are voting for the ones that we do not like. Well, our "least favorite", as I mentioned before.

These rounds will only last 24 hours each. We'll vote off 33 in round 1, 30 in round 2, 20 in round 3, 10 in round 4, 5 in round 5, 2 in round 6, and then pluck off one per round until we have our champion.

Even if you're not a fan of war books, or even familiar with Jerry Grandenetti, you can still join in on the fun. (thumbs u I really hope everyone can participate. :wishluck:

Chit chat is welcomed and encouraged, so please express your thoughts as the rounds progress.

:news: Tip: Some folks have two windows open when voting, one to look at the pretty pictures and one to click the checkboxes on the poll. If you hover your mouse over the pictures, you'll be able to see the name of the book.

Thanks everyone, now to the books.....

Well I did it but I'm not happy about it. I can't force myself to vote any of those beautiful wash tone covers off

I don't get how OAAW 81 has so few votes. While the book is important, the cover does nothing for me at all. (shrug)

Many people love that cover, including myself.

The perspective is awesome, with the foreground (and the red in it) drawn larger (as it should be of course), but that makes it seem more menacing. The contrast of the red with the purple.

The emotional draw of a soldier carrying one of his own on his back.

Look at the face, the facial expression, and the eyes. The face is grim yet resolute. Showing grit, yet also sorrow, as well as the pain and weariness from having to carry the soldier. A war weary yet determined face. It's awesome.

And to top it all off, a purple cover!

I agree with both of you , after I got back in the hobby I had never seen the cover of OAAW #81 and for a long time every time I looked at it I couldn't even tell what it was showing, and didn't like it, but after closer scrutiny I saw things more clearly and I like it , also it most likely is the finest example of a German "potato masher" cover.
