Selling on here

Also doesn't hurt taking some time and trying to become part of the community instead of just jumping right into selling comics. We have enough people here already who only use this place to pimp their wares

This thread is tame. Almost trying too hard to be nice. Guess everyone still recovering from the weekend.

...or people are actually not dickwads all the time. ;)

This is a comic book forum, not the butthurt forum...

is it safe to to sell things on here?

What is the best way to receive payments ?

thanks in advance!

This is a great place to sell, but it's not the same as eBay.

Here you have a deep pool of well informed and experienced buyers who range from pure hobbiest (collectors, never sellers!) to professional comic book dealers with storefronts, online presences and long convention histores. Everyone falls somewhere on that spectrum. What that means though is most of your market audience has a very good understanding of a books value int he market, you arent going to find someone here hitting a BIN for a book priced 25% over market when the market has plenty of inventory. What you are going to find is every variety of collector from moderns to golden age, from narrow focus (only covers with fish slappings!) to genre collectors (pre-code horror, sci-fi, romance). So if you have interesting books, odds are you'll find interested buyers.

What you will find here that you wont find on eBay or elsewhere is community. Lots of us have been her many many years, there's a bit of a shared language that gets learned over time, plenty of inside jokes that you will learn and become part of, and again a shared interest in comics.

So while you dont get eBays protection (but you still can use paypals, and thats how you want to get payment) or feedback tools, you get some comic book comrades. We manage our own community maintaining a probation list of bad buyers/sellers, and we police ourselves. There are some impressive internet detectives who can sniff out a fake listing, photoshopping, and fake user account, and they love unearthing scammers.

The other great thing is the more you participate in the community the more you benefit from the community. I've had spontaneous PMs (private messages) from members who came across books that they thought I might be interested in. People also play matchmaker when they know member A is looking for a book, and when member B says he's selling one, then connections get made.

So yes, it's safe to sell books here, but its even better to join in the community. Jump into a sub-forum, join in a conversation, ask a question... it's all fun.

It's safer than anywhere else

Paypal

The best way to sell is:

List the books with no scans before you have them in hand.

Ask for 3% additional if anyone wants to use Paypal.

Threaten to close the thread and send them to other venues for more

Use a lot of terms like. "Would benefit from a press", "Thought for sure this would be a (next grade better)", and "Looks every bit of (next grade better)"

You forgot, add an additional 10% if you want a scan.

Hah! lol But you can't forget about the hype -- there's never enough hype! The listing must include words like hot, key, minor key, mini-key, micro-key, micro-mini key, etc. None of the flippers, wannabe dealers, and/or "investors" around here wants to purchase an ordinary book. And while we're on the subject, is anyone else getting tired of seeing "This Week In Your Collection" books posted for sale within hours or days of being shared. Since when did "collection" become a synonym for "inventory"?

This week back from CGC & this week in your collection threads are sweet high traffic zones for sellers to pimp their latest wares.
