Is Superman the king of Superhero Songs?

54 posts in this topic

The other day I heard Genesis' Land of Confusion. I noticed there's a stanza about Superman and realized that there's quite a number of songs with a Superman reference. Is there another superhero who has been referenced in pop song? Which ones do you know?

Off the top of my head:

Superman

3 Doors Down - Kryptonite

Genesis - Land of Confusion

Iron Man

Black Sabbath - Iron Man

R.E.M. - Superman

X.T.C. - That's really super, Supergirl

- Sgt. Rock (is going to help me)

- Braniac's Daughter

Not a superhero song, but one I've always enjoyed, Monster Magnet's "Melt" has the lyric

"I was thinking how the world should have cried // On the day Jack Kirby died"

How true.

Has anyone brought up the abysmal Entombed "Wolverine Blues" or Steve Vai "Surfing with the Alien" yet?

Steve Vai "Surfing with the Alien" yet?

Joe Satriani

Also, "abysmal?" That album kicked azz.

The fact that I easily confuse Vai/Satriani probably illustrates my level of appreciation of this type of music. haha
