What's the obvious scam?

Could just be a new seller with a crappy ad

I have no idea the real value of that book

It's MINT CONDITION :roflmao:

If that book where even close to mint it would be hundreds of dollars.

Nothing about this ad or seller look right.

How about this one:

FVF 7.0

That book is roached out, I love how the seller says "Fragile pages and tears. Pretty rough but still readable" in description but gives it a 7.0 and people say grading is subjective. I know it is but there has to be a line drawn somewhere right? lol

It's an auction, not a buy it now.

I've won many books that were worth several hundred that started out as .99 cent auctions

What else doesn't look right to you?

It's a new account, he has several books for sale.

It's not an old account that has had no activity for months, and suddenly has a 20K book for $3000 after only selling purses in the past.

That's what the scams usually look like

If you actually think that you will receive the book listed, forget the mint , we all know thats a lie but if you think he will send asm 135 to you then bid on it and show us the book received if you even get anything hence the scam.

That's the first "mint condition" book you've seen on Ebay?

It's a stock photo, for all you know it really is in mint condition.

I think it's just a new seller with limited comic book experience, and everything in decent shape looks "mint" to inexperienced comic book people

I don't collect ASM

You're the one saying he's a scammer, prove it.

Sure thing

Definition of a scam: a dishonest way to make money by deceiving people

1. He is deceiving the buyer in thinking the book is mint condition, its clearly not as all he has provided is a stock image of a book and the book pictured is not mint.

2. No selling history and all his comic listings are marked mint condition which there not.

(This is not really 100% proof just adds to the concern)

Use of deception to make money off someone is considered a scam by definition.

But it's a stock photo, so how do you know whether or not the book is in mint condition? "Mint" is a word that gets thrown around a lot in this hobby, so I don't really put too much stock in that. I've won comics on ebay listed as MINT that I wouldn't call Fine. I've also won comics described as "good" that look 9.0+

Also, it's $10. If the worst scam I ever fall for costs me 10 bucks, I'm going to be just fine.

You have absolutely no proof of anything, you are speculating.

You have no idea whether the book is mint condition or not, and he feels it is.

No selling history? Were you born with a selling history? I wasn't, and just like this guy, I had my first day on ebay too.

Why does a stock image have to be mint???? It's not the book for sale.

Your hearts in the right place, trying to protect people from scams, but in this case I don't think you have found one.

Worst thing that would happen here IMO is you would receive a poorly packed "craigslist mint" book.

I'd gladly risk $13.58 on that listing.

My prediction? You get a raw 5.0-5.5ish copy of ASM 135 for your trouble.

In terms of eBay scams, this seems tame by comparison.

Now, we'll see if the bidding ends up at $150 or more but this listing doesn't offend me in the slightest.
