Lost In Space TV Series Coming From Netflix

Last Fall, news spread that Netflix had landed film rights to the cult TV series against various other bidders in what can only be called a competitive dogfight. Having won, Netflix has now reportedly given their remake a 10-episode order. While there is no confirmed release date set for the Lost In Space remake, it is expected that the show will premiere sometime in 2018.

Based off Irwin Allen’s 1965 series, the new Lost In Space series will take after its predecessor which will definitely delight old fans. The show, of course, will focus on the Robinson family as they explore a strange alien universe after they experience an unexpected traveling detour. Allen’s show, which was set in the then super futuristic world of 1997, followed the family has they were sent by the U.S. to visit uncharted space territories. However, when the nefarious Dr. Zachary Smith intentionally botches their journey, the family is sent veering off into deep space and must struggle to stick together.

Fans will be relieved to find that Netflix is keen on keeping to the original show’s humor and spirit. Cindy Holland, Netflix’s Vice President of Original Content, has said that, “The original series so deftly captured both drama and comedy, and that made it very appealing to a broad audience. The current creative team’s reimagining of the series for Netflix is sure to appeal to both fans who fondly remember the original and to create a new generation of enthusiasts around the world.”

Parker Posey Cast as Dr. Smith in Netflix's Lost In Space Reboot

Parker "Queen of the Indies" Posey, who is best known to mainstream audiences for her memorable supporting roles in 1993's Dazed and Confused and 2006's Superman Returns, will play a gender-bent version of Dr. Smith in Netflix's Lost in Space reboot.

Jonathan Harris portrayed the selfish, lazy, and sometimes-wicked Dr. Zachary Smith in the original 1965 television series. To prevent the Robinsons from successfully carrying out their mission to colonize a planet orbiting the nearest star, Alpha Centauri, Dr. Smith — a surgeon, a psychologist, and a secret-agent — sabotaged the Jupiter 2 spacecraft, causing it to become lost in... (Now, where was it again? Oh, yeah.) Space! Unintentionally, Smith became trapped aboard the ship.

Gary Oldman (Batman Begins) portrayed the character in the forgettable 1998 film.

Posey joins a cast that already features Molly Parker (House of Cards) as Maureen Robinson, Toby Stephens (Black Sails) as John Robinson, Maxwell Jenkins (Sense8) as Will Robinson, and Taylor Russell (Falling Skies) as Judy Robinson.

Ignacio Serricchio, best known for his work on Bones, The Witches of East End, and The Young and the Restless, has been cast as Don West in Netflix's reinvention of Lost in Space.

Lost In Space follows the exploits of the Robinsons, a family of pioneering deep-space colonists who become lost after their craft is sabotaged. It has continued to be a cult sensation and is considered one of the most popular pieces of popular science fiction created in the last 50 years.

The original series ran from 1965 until 1968, and there have been spinoffs, sequels, and the like in the form of comics, animation, and a 1998 live-action movie that starred William Hurt, Gary Oldman, and Matt LeBlanc.

Serricchio will appear alongside star Toby Stephens, Molly Parker and Parker Posey in the Netflix remake.

Man. Molly Parker was such hottie a decade back. Still very attractive, mind you, but she was complete fapping material if you ever saw "The Center of the World".

Just as long as it's better than the '90s movie.

Tied for worst-ever Akiva Goldsman --script, Gary Oldman over-acted and Matt LeBlanc proved he really can't do anything outside of Joey.

Gawd was it horrible.

Urgh, I went to the cinema to see that turd. Heather Graham was the only plus.
