EXCLUSIVE: As Deadpool & Wolverine tracks huge ahead of its July 26 release and looms as a summer box office savior, we can reveal that director Shawn Levy is the top choice and is having early conversations to direct another Marvel Studios pic — one that potentially could be the next Avengers movie.

Deadline hears that Levy has been given the latest script by Michael Waldron, though sources add that he has not given an answer on whether he would come aboard, and the studio is still planning to meet with other directors while they wait on a decision from him.

Marvel Studios could not be reached for comment.

We can’t say for sure that Levy will take the job; he expects to be heavily involved as a director and executive producer of the final season of Netflix’s signature series Stranger Things, and there is also a Star Wars film in his future. Still, the prospect of Levy steering the next Avengers makes a helluva lot of sense as Marvel boss Kevin Feige continues to sort out the next iteration of his superhero empire.

Isn't this part of the reason why the MCU sucks right now, the cost of successful directors/writers/actors incrementally increases after each box office hit they have.   And Disney opted out of this and pursued the Armarni Exchange model of brand capitalisation.

Nothing smacks of fiscal irresponsibility like spending the money you've yet to make on a "sure thing".

They've lost track of understanding that quality will always outperform quantity in the long run. Likely due to so many greedy fingers in the pot, no one wants to stand up and say "Why don't we think this through a bit?". Cashflow fuels the addiction to greed, and when it runs dry - that's when poor choices and judgments are made, which is why where we're at in the genre. They're so busy trying to lock down a director that brings in bank, they don't even have a working plan to fix/reinvent/rollout the next project.

That’s okay.

Not like it’s a Judge Dredd situation.

New Deadpool & Wolverine Trailer Reveals Sabretooth First Look

Quote

Marvel Studios has released a new, one-minute teaser trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, featuring a first look at the film's take on Sabretooth. Posting it to social media, star Ryan Reynolds joked, "don't think we can add another 'and' to the title." Of course, it also looks like this fight is going to happen in the wasteland set that has dominated most of the cameos teased for the movie. The scene, which features a collapsed and crumbling 20th Century Fox logo, appears to be a void outside of time, presumably abandoned by the Time Variance Authority, who seem to be setting up camp in this movie too.

Sabretooth is played by Tyler Mane, who originated the role in X-Men. In the years since he hasn't returned to the role of Sabretooth (it was played by Liev Schreiber in X-Men Origins: Wolverine), but that hasn't stopped the former WWE star from getting into the superhero business. He had roles in Jupiter's Legacy for Netflix and Max's Doom Patrol.

This trailer made me glad that I’m 41 and don’t give an excrement about the quality of the MCU anymore.
