Shouldn't we be talking about this? Troubling

My gut says it's an unauthorized counterfeit copy and is probably prohibited on ebay somewhere in the rules.

If Marvel was called "Paramount" and the comic was called "Star Trek copyright violation," every similar fake marvel comic would be hunted down and terminated w/extreme prejudice. But Marvel's too busy making money to worry about small time carp like this.

Agreed it's for collectors to police, and I'm kicking myself for not starting a thread months ago, probably over summer, when I noticed several similar marvel bronze keys counterfeit copies being sold (all identified somewhere in the description as a copy or replica).

You are kidding, right? Do you know who owns Marvel?

Agreed, Disney will continue to hunt down and terminate w/extreme prejudice any unauthorized uses of Spiderman, Hulk or other marvel characters as diligently as they have done w/Mickey and Goofy.

Except these kinds of counterfeit comic books, imo, because it's small time carp for them. I'd love to end up wrong on this, and see a lawsuit where Marvel sues manufacturers and sellers of counterfeits. Probably need counterfeits on some scale or at least notoriety to gain its attention.

Whats troubling is - the seller (who very well may be a board member) - just described it in such a way that they can just sort of get away with it...

"Bought this on a recent road trip. Not a Marvel print or reprint. Printer unknown. As Is

"

I mean - he was honest which is great... but what about the next guy. And this sets a precedent for people to go - huh - why don't I just run off 100 copies of this and make $6,000 ? or 1,000 copies?

This should be illegal in my opinion... and that copy should have been destroyed -

It is illegal. And counterfeits are banned on ebay. Someone should report this.

This has become a serious problem for Golden Age collectors in particular on eBay. There is at least one seller who only sellers photocopied GA books, but this particular seller is careful to only deal in public domain stuff. In this case it's not illegal per se, but creates the opportunity for malfeasance down the road, which I find incredibly troubling:

I feel the same way about the Hulk 181 being discussed here. The opportunity for malfeasance abounds.

One could place it ever so precisely in a picture of a mixed lot for sale on ebay(say, with just the corner sticking out), and not mention the titles/issue numbers. Watch that lot skyrocket. Could someone get away with that?

I've seen those books as well and am surprised they're allowed on there. I was searching for a book for months and it popped up on the search result. I got excited and then got pissed once I found out it was a photocopy.

Might be from the same maker that made these for this prank:

Video description: *No real copies were harmed in the making of this video. They were all replicas we commissioned from an artist.

That prank video is awesome!

Or maybe, just she is awesome. She really freaked out a lot of collectors!

With EBay's return policy it would be tough to make that work. The buyer can pretty much always return something. PayPal will refund their money and grab it from the sellers account.
