Tribute to Richard Donner: Geoff Johns & Kevin Feige

Really cool recognition event, which led to Geoff Johns and Kevin Feige linking up as part of the event.

Geoff Johns And Kevin Feige Join Forces To Pay Tribute To Richard Donner

Quote

In a special 90-minute program at the film academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater, director and producer Richard Donner was honored for his noteworthy career redefining works, including 1978's Superman and 1987's Lethal Weapon.

Among the numerous stars and directors paying tribute, were two comic book movie kingpins, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and DC Films co-chair Geoff Johns.  Both got their start at The Donners' Company, the production company Richard starting with his wife, noted X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner.

During their turn to speak, Feige remarked, "Superman, the movie is still, to this day, the archetype of the perfect superhero film origin story.  I hope you don't bemoan the fact that that film has inspired all of these movies."

Great to see the competition thrown to the side to clearly call out a fantastic contribution which led to all the amazing TV shows and movies we experience today.

Although it rehashes some of the posted talking points, it is cool to hear how much Superman: The Movie still influences people. To include Patty Jenkins.

There's One DC Movie Marvel Always Watches Before Filming New Projects

Quote

“Superman: The Movie is still to this day the archetype of the perfect superhero film origin story and we watch it before we make almost any one of our films,” Feige said. “That’s been the case for the past seventeen years since I left the fold to go work for Marvel.”

Feige’s DC mirror also spoke up about how influential Superman: The Movie has been to the company and its impending film slate. Geoff Johns recalled how Donner stepped in to oversee the heroic film because he wanted to “save Superman.” The feature’s original -script left much to be desired, and Donner took up the director’s helm to ensure Clark Kent came out on top. Johns went on to say the director’s film stands as “the greatest superhero movie film still - ever!”

So, there you have it. If you wanted to know what could possibly bridge the rivalry between Marvel and DC, then now you know the answer is Superman.

Recently, the DC Extended Universe paid an overt nod to Superman: The Movie with Wonder Woman. Director Patty Jenkins has said before how much Donner’s project influenced her work on the film, so she paid homage to the film’s iconic alley scene. Wonder Woman almost perfectly recreates the scene where Clark Kent saves Lois Lane from an alleyway mugger, and fans were quick to pick-up on the cherished nod.

Who is left from the original Superman? Hackman(who seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth, Valerie Perrine(Miss Teschmacher), Sarah Douglas, Jack O'Halloran. I can't really think of anyone else. It gives me a sad feeling to think that most of the people responsible for something that was so important to my childhood are now gone

Terence Stamp knew exactly the kind of movie he was in, and chewed the scenery perfectly.  Can't imagine a better Zod for that era.

RIP and GRATITUDE for all those involved with these two movies who have left this earth.
