Soul's Winter, Shades of Gray, and Sons of the Silent Age are all pretty solid, though I'm betting you've read them before. The only question left...are you a "break it out and display it" or a "mint in sealed box" kinda guy? Now to start looking for loot for next year's box... Reno McCoy
Holy . I just got home from The Last Jedi to find a huge box from Azkaban/Dwayne. I mean, seriously, it's HUGE. Look at this thing. Azkaban
Popular Post Reno McCoy
Okay. I mean, wow. Seriously. I just opened the Mystery Box from Azkaban, and I gasped when I saw the four sets of bubble wrapped comics. He mentioned he'd send me something big and cool, but I had no idea you could put so many comics in one box. Where's the fainting emoticon when you need it? Popular Post Reno McCoy
So, before I even unwrap these things, let me tell you how cool Dwayne is...in case you didn't now just how generous he is. Instead of sending a random assortment of comics, he asked me what I'm into. I admitted that over the last couple years, all I've collected is high grade Adam Hughes books. I loooove Adam Hughes, and by focusing on him, I can scratch the collecting itch but still keep saving money for making comics instead of buying them. I said I collect Hughes covers, along with other modern favorites like Frank Cho and Artgerm, etc. I then told him when I was really collecting, I focused on those books I loved as a kid. I grew up reading comics in the late 70s and into the 80s, all the way to the early 90s. So of course, my focus was Copper Age keys. My favorites characters were always Spider-Man and Batman, but I also read a lot of Daredevil and X-Men, too. Really, how could you go wrong with any of those characters? I also told him I love all things Star Wars, that I have a thing for good damsel in distress covers, and that I also enjoy reading sword and sorcery type comics, like Conan and Red Sonja. I went on to add that I have a son who's 8 years old. He looooves Star Wars. He is starting to get into Avengers and Batman and Spider-Man, but he hasn't really gotten into reading comics. I've tried, but he's more interested in movies and playing Legos. I'm slowly getting him more into reading though, so there's hope yet. I expect a full on comic reader by the time he's 10. Anyway, that's what I said, and I expected a box of random Copper Age reading copies, most likely, but I was looking forward to the surprise. I had no idea just how surprised I could be. Here's what I found in just the first bubble wrapped bundle. That's a lot of NM comics! Popular Post Reno McCoy
I couldn't resist, so I opened the rest. Some great reading ahead of me, and probably some for my son, too. Plus some Frank Cho and X-men and Wolverine to add to my collection. Woo hoo! Thanks, Azkaban. You rule! I have read the entire volume 1, though not for a long time now, so I will definitely be re-familiarizing myself with the storylines you sent. The figures will stay neatly tucked in their boxes until my son is old enough to care about them. Then he is free to do what he wants with them. That deluxe Donnie is a tank. I think it weighs more than my boy does now. He might tip over if he tried to lug it around.
