media_junkie
Well not that China has ever been a big money maker for Star Wars, don't expect it to this go around either. Star Wars Episode 9 released the same day as IP Man 4 in China. IP Man 3 did $125 million in China where as The Last Jedi only managed $42 million. In addition -- in walking away and refusing to (initially) train Rey -- Luke reflected exactly what Yoda had done to him initially in Empire. There was a wonderful symmetry there. Yes, I’m sure this is what RJ was thinking the whole time and it wasn’t done to be funny. theCapraAegagrus
Rip
There is a great documentary on the TLJ Blu Ray. Whether you like the movie or not its really interesting to see the ideas and motivations behind RJ's story. I had a few big problems but really enjoyed the documentary. Just watched the first 2 with my older brother because we used to watch movies together all the time. Worry not required!

I feel sad when I think about what Disney has done to Star Wars, I cant believe what a poorly written mishmash of garbage the series has become...having said that of course I’m gonna honor the past and throw at least dollar theater or rental money at this. I have to see, in some format, how Disney finally puts the dagger into the old bird. From Star Wars to Star Ears going forward. I have to see, in some format, how Disney finally puts the dagger into the old bird. From Star Wars to Star Ears going forward. This thing that kills me is this corporate greed plain and simple. I call it corporate because they're only concerned about the quick dollars. If they cared about the later money they wouldn't do this cash grab wham bam thank you maam approach. Because NO ONE is going to care about this slop 10 years form now. The original SW series isn't "lighting in a bottle" it's someone that cared about the craft of movie making. I believe THAT'S why it has been a staple of pop culture for so long. The original Trilogy is so fresh it could be released today and crush anything out there - even with the rubber masks on much of the aliens. I see this as a guide of many years to come on what NOT to do with a franchise. This reminds me of what hollywood did to original planet of the apes. The first movie was a 10 out of 10 classic with a twilight zone twist ending. The others movies that followed in the 70's were nothing but a cash grab. And then there was the marky mark 2000 turdfest and finally the people at hollywood got it... and made a series of ape movies that were re-watchable with Rise, Dawn and War. Oh well, I guess I can wait until someone cares again... media_junkie, mattn792, bentbryan and 4 others
