50YrsCollctngCmcs
I did a search but didn't find a thread devoted to the genius of John Stanley. We are all familiar with his Little Lulu work but the other work he did for Dell is a bit off the radar but certainly fun. Here's a couple of examples from Animal Comics I had handy and I hope others can mine their collections for his hidden gold. Lulu welcome as well but I think she has her own thread. 50YrsCollctngCmcs
This thread never got a lot of traction which is too bad since Mr. Stanley did such great work. I jut picked up a copy of Little Lulu #5 and read it this morning. Very entertaining and wonderful stuff from a rather clever man! sacentaur, Jayman and Marty Mann

Hap Hazard
I believe the stories in this first issue written by Stanley. Larryw7 and 50YrsCollctngCmcs
50YrsCollctngCmcs
I don't think you could do this cover today with off the PETA people! But it's still funny! This cover is credited to Stanley; later issues seem to be credited to Irv Tripp who probably had a cleaner style but Stanley really brought Lulu to life inside the books. The high-grade copies seem to be selling for high prices. I can't help but think that a small number of devotees must be bidding against one another. I can't imagine that very many collectors would be interested in that title. Edited October 14, 2021 by jimbo_7071

I think I may have had an Australian reprint about 1,000 years ago. Does the first story involve a giant arm in the sewers of a deserted neighbourhood? Scared the proverbial out of me as a kid! BitterOldMan
Bought this biography of John Stanley directly from the late author Bill Schelly at OAFCON. I have really enjoyed buying from forum members, but nothing beats mingling in person. Sarg

Bill wrote quite a few interesting biographies on comic luminaries; very sad he passed away.

Yes that would be my take as well. The Lulu collectors are a passionate lot so I could see that. When the kids were small they loved the Black Horse reprints and we would go to Comic Con and I would bring them to the Little Lulu fan club annual meeting where they would do a out loud reading of a Lulu classic. Fun stuff! And I'm not complaining you can pick us such great comics in the 7.0-8.0 range for a song compared to other books.
