It’s both ironic and poetic that that’s the book that kicked off the Promise Collection thread

Was the reserve as high as the original sale price, or did you accept that you might have to take a bit of a hit considering how other Promise books have performed the second time around?

And were Cap 37 the Daring Mystery 1 yours?

(I sort of expected to see a notation of, "From the collection of Clark B-------" on your books because Metro has done that for consignors who were less well known in the hobby. I suppose it must have been your choice not to do that?)

Suspicious 11. It's amazing how often Comic Connect attracts people who are willing to pay so much more than recent previous sales of often nicer copies for the grade.

I was just going over results of CC and this thread and saw this - HOLY SPIT!!!  This is an easy $10k+ over what I expected, thanks for the past sales - it's more extensive than the notes I've taken.  I know this issue was promo'd out in this auction in the videos / emails but this is a major jump for this book (if it's real).  Makes me happy too, but I'm still in shock.

My copy, same grade and pages:

Suspense 1 notwithstanding, the issue that really surprise me although it really shouldn't have considering that many claim it is the rarest issue in the entire Suspense run was Suspense 4:  :o

Especially considering that it is a Restored PLOD copy (albeit Slight Amateur with only a small amount of glue on spine) that still managed to fetched $7,245 or a rather astounding 12X Unrestored condition guide value.  :applause:

I think this is more in line where this book should be at, although that it's a PLOD and got this $ is a bit surprising.

Meanwhile the Suspense #2, also a PLOD with small glue on spine, in 4.0 only got $874.  I should have bid on that.  Maybe not as cool as a cover but I think that was a deal.

But the #4 result is fine by me! :)

No, my reserve was below my original purchase price. And all that “from the collection of” jazz? Ain’t my style

Maybe the consignor here was thinking the same way you are in terms of buying on Heritage and reselling on CC for this book here:  hm  :tonofbricks:

If so, unless they was looking for a big tax write-off, it didn't go so well for the consignor as it sold for only $3,500 after they had won it from Heritage for $4,800 just last September in 2023:

Adventure Comics #73 (DC, 1942) CGC FN/VF 7.0 White pages....

Personally, I am actually quite surprised that this book is selling at such a low price point since I think it is an absolutely gorgeous classic Simon & Kirby cover and when seen in HG condition, has a very 3-D like appearance with the Manhunter popping right out from the cover.  Then again, I've always had a penchant for green covers.  :luhv:
