Ian-

Just curious, do you have every DC Whitman, SoMuchFun, Superhombre, and all four Amythest 35 cent variants?

Also interested in your take on Pence, newsstand, and second, third, and deeper prints?

thanks

Harry

how did you aquire the supergear?

Hit a BIN on eBay about 2 years ago.

Was it a BIN ??

I thought he was privately playing you me and Al Stoltz all against each other.

I'd love to trade as I vowed a long time ago I'd not pay more than $1000 for it, simply because it's not worth it. But I let all my Golden Age spares go to Harley. I still have a spare New Adventure 14 and a spare More Fun 58 (Spectre cover, the one with the pendulum), which I left with someone else, but I think the NA 14 has the wrong back cover and the More Fun has a centrefold missing but only ad pages, not story.

I'd trade you the pair for the Supergear. They still gotta be worth $2000 together, purely because of the enormous rarity of the New Adventure.

I have most of the Whitmans but don't consider them essential.

Got all the So Much Funs and the Superhombre.

I only thought there were two Amethyst variants, I got one and won the other on e-Bay but it never arrived and they stiffed the guy who bought it for me. I don't consider them essential but wanted them anyway.

Not interested in pence copies. I throw them in my spare boxes.

Got virtually every second print and variant cover ever made. And that includes all the speight of new ones with 1 in 25 variants of Justice Society etc etc

Ian you don't have to repsond to me directly (we can call a truce) but how about the only known copies of the 15 cent variants for More fun #59 and Tec #43 (I believe those are the issue numbers?) Any copies of those across the pond.

I think they were made for sale in Canada. They just never interested me.

what condition is your detective 27 or action 1? how much resto?

The covers of both are heavily restored.

The Action 1 seems to be two copies married together at some time in the past.

The Detective 27 has beautiful white pages inside.

The Action 1 is an apparent 6 and the Detective 27 is probably an 8.5.

But they both look outwardly pristine and clean and strong.

All Star Comics is by far my favourite run.

Then Justice League of America, particularly the first sixty issues. It went drastically off after that.

The the Inferior Five, Metal Men, Metamorpho, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, and the Legion Of Super Heroes when they were in Adventure Comics.

My most cherished comic is Double Action 2.

Has anyone done the Timely/Atlas/Marvel equivalent?

That is a good question and me being a Marvel Zombie would love to know but I think that the DC feat is much harder because of the greater body of work.

You up to it?

....Metal Men, Metamorpho....

I arrived here about the time you were finishing up, so I didn't realize this. All those DC comics, and these two modest Silver Age series are among your top ten? A man of exquisite taste! Good evidence that your interest is in the content, not the price tag, too! Even a collector of modest means can finish those sets in at least readable condition.

Seeing your favorites, it seems like Doom Patrol should be there too. Never struck your fancy?

as far as amythest goes, it appears that there are both direct and newsstand 35 cent editions for issues 1 & 2.

still curious, why would you consider the Whitmans non-essential? They are not reprints, and they are DC's. It seems to me that they would be more essential than reprints or subsequent printings (unless the cover is different).

Do you have all the DC comics that come with toys? Do you consider them promo's? Are they essential?

I spoke to Ian via PM's at his forum a couple of months ago about his collection and not posting here anymore. He says he's seriously considering selling off the collection and starting again from scratch. That's an auction I'd love to see.

That was at a time when financial pressures were getting to me and I was merely thinking aloud and considering it. I made a couple of very tentative and indefinite enquiries briefly.

Mainly because I went heavily into debt to complete the collection a few years ago.

But in the cold light of day, I realised the idea was ridiculous after forty years, and I fought off the temptation.

:applause:

Ditto; glad to hear you'll keep it. (thumbs u :applause:

Congrats again!...quite an amazing accomplishment.

no.

I'm sticking to a very narrow focus. GA DC early runs and keys. Don't have the stamina or money for complete runs.

Yes. All that I know about. They are considered promos but I want them all.

Are there any special favorites that you plan to upgrade someday, Ian ?...GOD BLESS...
