I have quite a few books to get through. I'll be posting as many as I can now, during my lunch break. Then I will return after work - 5 pm ET or so - to add the rest.

Here's a roadmap of what I'll be posting:

romance odds and ends

teen humor books

Atlas Patsy Walker issues, including what I think is the best GGA cover of Patsy's Atlas era

Marvel romance keys

nice mid-grade Atlas romance comics

affordable low grade Matt Baker Atlas issues

Sure, DC seems to get all the romance love around these parts, but let's hear it for Atlas you guys! Jay Scott Pike, Jack Kirby, Al Hartley, Gene Colan, and Matt Baker is a pretty tough lineup to beat!

Let's start with a personal favorite of mine just to whet the appetite. Though most of what I'll be posting is Atlas and Marvel books, I do have some random odds and ends from other publishers, including...

Young Romance #194 - 4.0 - $10

This is an important book, with a very rare interracial romance depicted on the cover. DC still shied away a little from showing the couple in liplock, but the story inside is worth the price of admission. A nurse longs for true love, and finds it in a caring doctor. However, when they meet each other's friends, sparks fly, as both the white friends and the black friends are disapproving. Will love conquer racism? Or will he get stabbed to death by a junkie in the ER before the have a chance to find out? Spoilers: the cover answers the question.

A great, overlooked romance key issue and story, and a great addition (or starting point) for any romance collector!

Next up is another great DC romance book, with cover and interior art by the legendary John Romita, plus a story by Jay Scott Pike. I love DC's serialized soap operas, any stewardess Bonnie Talyor is right near the top of the list.

Young Romance #130 - 3.5 - $12

This copy has gloss, and is flat and tight. It also has rusty staples, and some migration, mostly at the top staple, so I have priced it accordingly. Really cool book.

And check out the wonky little 12 cent price font on this issue. What's up with that?

The Big 25 cent era is one of my all-time favorites. I can't turn down any issue of any title with this design.

Girl's Love Stories #167 - 6.0 - $16

This is a really nice looking book, and feels nice in hand. There are a couple small spots on the cover that can't be seen in the scan, only if you hold the book at an angle.

Changing gears a little bit, here's a Golden Age classic.

I know photo covers haven't taken off in general, but this one happens to feature legendary movie star Jane Russell.

Love Letters #17 - 2.0 - $15

Looks and feels nicer than it's technical grade, but both above and below the "Too Much Temptation" blurb there is a tear at spine that runs through the entire book. They don't affect stability to much, but be aware! They also don't affect that lok Jane Rusellis shooting at you. I think she might be into you!

Any love for Ajax?! Where are all the Ajax collectors out there, can I get a holler!!

All-True Romance #33 - 2.5 - $12

Tanning and spotting on back cover, but fc colors are nice. Mmmm, yellow background! Ten cent romance doesn't get much more affordable than this!

Here's a cool pre-code book from Quality. I know Matt Baker worked on this title; nothing in this issue has been attributed to him according to the internet, but several stories in this issue have no attribution on the GCD at all, so maybe you guys know more than they do — certainly more than I do. Even without Baker art, I love the cover, especially the singer in the background. So great.

Love Secrets #36 - 3.0 - $34

Note: centerfold is detached at top staple. Still attached at bottom.

SOLD!

Laugh hasn't gotten the love that Archie, Pep, and Betty and Veronica have gotten. Not yet, that is. But it's coming!

Here's a 10 cent issue with a Harry Lucey Veronica makeout cover. Don't want to drop four figures on a B&V #41? How about spending a fraction for this one.

Laugh #91 - 3.5 - $19

Notes: small tear bc, tanning fc

Okay, going to sneak in a couple more so that when I return I can hit the ground running with those Atlas Patsy Walkers.

First up, it's a nice presenting copy of a fairly hard to find title. Yes, Kathy the Teen-Age Tornado was still being published well into the Marvel Age. This issue is from June, 1963. I don't come across copies of Kathy very often!

Kathy the Teen-age Tornado #23 - 3.5 - $15

Presents really well for it's grade. There are some ncb wrinkles on the fc, and a chip out of the back cover. The interior has small pencil marks throughout - it seems whoever owned this originally was using it t get fashion ideas, as small pencil notes for "hair" and "dress" appear on multiple pages. Maybe I'm weird, but I actually like this sort of thing, it's a fun reminder of those who owned these books before us. Anyway, looks nicer than the grade!

SOLD!

Speaking of titles that ran a lot longer than some people might think, Millie the Model! Man, this title ran into the 1970's! Though there are fans of both the DeCarlo era and the mod fashion era in the 60's, one era that I don't think has gotten it's due just yet is the "New Millie" era where they embraced the Archie house style to capitalize on the huge success of the Archie cartoon. It worked, as the series ran for several more years on the coattails of Archie's massive sales.

Stan Goldberg did these books, so it's no wonder that when Marvel finally cancelled them, Archie scooped him up and he became the main Archie artist after DeCarlo - just as he had done with Millie.

These books I think are of interest to any Archie fans - which is how I ended up with them in the first place. These are mostly lower grade readers. The end of the series even boasts some frame covers, which aren't so easy to find compared to other frame books from Marvel.

This lot has 11 issues of the "New" Millie the Model (161, 162, 165, 171, 175, 184, 186, 187, 191, 196, 199), 4 issues of Mad About Millie (4, 6, 12, 15), and one issue of Chili (2).

16 issue Millie Lot - $45 shipped

I don't want to worry about doing the math for the shipping on this one, so for this lot, I'm just going to include it in the price.
