Popular Post Blastaar
Just picked up this beautiful piece by Shelly and it made me think of how overlooked he is by the industry in terms of recognition. He was a great talent and pioneer of the industry. Edited May 30, 2019 by Blastaar KirbyJack, Pat Calhoun, Larryw7 and 8 others

Popular Post OtherEric
I will always be incredibly grateful to Fred for giving this to me. I wasn't able to make the show; Fred bought this one but then later went back for a larger piece. He wanted to make sure this one went to somebody who would properly appreciate it. It certainly did! woowoo, Blastaar, lhcomics and 6 others

Blastaar
So, for his commissions would he pencil a unique sketch and then fill it in with watercolors or would he have a stock image black and white that he would add the colors too? I only ask as I have seen multiple commissions that look very similar. I assume it's just because like other artist they have an idea in mind for a set pose and usually call upon that for commissions.

I think they varied, I have a GL picture on another wall that was obviously not a copy or a colored in piece. I've seen multiple variations of this one, but I love it anyway. However, when I met him at shows, he had books of "prints" that he'd "finish", almost like a coloring book piece. Most of those seemed to be the Doughboy. OtherEric
I think, at least with my piece, it was one he did ahead of time and brought to the show to sell. So he possibly had several similar pieces he had done for that, not exactly "commissions" in the sense they were done before a buyer approached. RedFury
I've seen several of the Grundy one and the JSA one, and if you look carefully they're all a little different. He was just re-drawing the same scene. I suspect he drew one original, and then hand-copied several from that.
aardvark88
Can't recall if this is from Flash Comics #2 or #4. Think #4 was 1st interior Hawkman art by Moldoff per Overstreet. Larryw7 and skypinkblu
