I've been watching this book in particular for a couple months - wild fluctuations:

Two months ago, almost same price - two grade points lower:

Yikes!

Yeah I saw that. Guess we have to wait to see what the next few lower grade copies go for. There are a few higher grade copies on auction now.

I'm sure you already know all this - 9.2 in January 50,400. An 8.5 same day 25,200.

The next 8.5 in September 52,800. Now that's a leap. And the same 9.2 from January is up again right now. Can't blame the owner after seeing what the 8.5 did.

The single highest graded Black Cat Collection 9.6 went for 102,000 a year ago. Gonna be interesting to see where this 9.2 lands.

Yikes!

Went low because the Halloween season is over. Also, its not a very strong 4.5 copy. I usually see a rise in value for PCH books a month or so before Halloween season starts.

there are 2 more being auctioned by Heritage, if they end up at 90K just like the first one... the butt hurt will be HUGE

I was thinking same same thing. Will there be Butt Hurt? Seemed strange they would have 2 ending the same day and both White even. What's better for the seller, having your book end first or 2 hours later?

The 1st one graded this past August- very small spine stress lines
very small, light crease right top of back cover

2nd one graded in 2008 has no graders notes on the CGC page but Heritage says Spine Lite Mis-wrap. But the 1st one has an even slightly worse mis-wrap. Back cover's crooked too. I guess they both could pass for 9.8 but I bet one could find an equally attractive 9.6 or 9.4 no problem.

That hadn't occured to me. I was watching this one as you never see a restored copy auction. Seems to be very slight resto. If I was the buyer, which I would may have been prior to it topping 4k, I'd be pretty stoked.

Went for about the price I expected. The C-1 slight resto likely unreversible unless heavy paper loss damage will be done

“Get your umbrellas out boys, it raining 9.8s”

So, instead of the bidders all saying last year they can't wait for the prices to drop so that they can pick up a copy of these hoit books, everybody rushes for the exit doors as fast as their little feet can take them.  (:

Yikes!

It won’t show on GPA but a 3.5 OWW sold for $13,150 on 8/29/2022 on CLink.

He's not known for having scarce or difficult-to-find books.  He needs Heritage's buyers for these types of books.

Although this might indeed be the case for this Dell & Gold Key portion of his collection, it was certainly not the case with respect to his HG SA Marvel collection which he auctioned off on HA about 10 years ago. hm

Needless to say, when it comes to HG SA Marvels, there's buyers everywhere for these kinds of much in demand books.  (thumbsu

This fever now surprisingly even seems to be able to beat down those rather silly nonsensical comical covers as evident not only by the $1,860 paid for the above CGC 3.5 graded copy of WF 30, but also the current bidding for this World's Finest 18 offering: :whatthe:

https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/world-s-finest-comics-18-dc-1945-cgc-vf-80-white-pages/a/40212-82139.s?ic16=ViewItem-Auction-Archive-OtherAvailable-081514

Golden Age (1938-1955):Superhero, World's Finest Comics #18 (DC, 1945) CGC VF 8.0 White pages....

Already sitting at $2,400 or more than double condition guide with still another 2 weeks to go in this auction.  Especially surprising considering that this title used to sell only at a discount to condition guide for decades, as clearly evident by the mere $840 that an equivalent CGC 8.0 graded copy was able to fetch at HA only a short couple of years ago back in May of 2020.  :whatthe:

Not sure why, but I guess there must have been a bad bidder in there somewhere, as I just clicked onto this link and the current bid was hammering at only $115. ???   :takeit:

Tossed in a bid of $380 to see if that would be good enough for the high bid, but not surprsingly, no dice as I was instantaneously outbidded.  :(

Yeah, looks like Dougie is keeping the pressers busy as it looks like pretty much all of those Crackajack Funnies have been bumped up in grade and it would certainly be nice to see them sell for less than what they sold for in their unpressed condition a couple of years ago, although I would highly doubt this happening.  :(

Rathher surprisingly, I took a look at the 6 or 7 Crackajack Funnies which Dougie had won in a CC Event Auction last year and even though he had them all regraded with most of them going up by one or two grade increments, the amount that the entire group sold for on HA last Thursday was a combined less than $100 as compared to what they had sold for on CC.  :whatthe:

So much for HA always getting more than the other major comic auction platforms as I guess Dougies must have lost money on this grouping of books that he won from CC last year after factoring in both regrading fees and HA commission fees.  I guess there wouldn't be any additional 3rd party pressing fees to add on top of this since I assume that Dougie must have his own in-house presser for his Pedigree business.

Then again, I guess he more than made up for it by being able to sell the CGC 9.8 graded copy Crackajack Funnies 9 for $6,600 after winning it in an earlier Heritage Signature Auction in its former incarnation as a CGC 9.6 graded copy for only $3K back in November of 2018.  (shrug)

I can't believe we're in a world where getting $90k for a Hulk 181 means huge butt hurt.

On the other hand, Hulk 181 is exactly the kind of book that I would've expected the Crypto Bros to gravitate towards, so it won't be surprising if we do see a crash in this sector of the market, along with other books-that-non-comic-collectors-would-know-about that were driven up during the pandemic.

Two people were drunk bidding on CLINK, or maybe it was someone like me that bid $21 on and item but your browser defaulted to $2100.

Heritage produced same recent type results. That's why the 90K result gave me a good chuckle.

Yes, especially since I am quite sure that well over 90% of the 9.8 graded Hulk 181 owners brought the book for well under $90K.  (thumbsu

I still think a 9.8 copy of IH 181 should only be worth $50k tops

Well, from my own personal POV, I believe it's a lot more practical for us to spend less time dreaming about our fantasy world 9.8 graded copies, and focus more of our attention and energy to the real world CGC 8.5 to 9.4 copies where probably the overwhelming majority of us live in.  hm  (thumbsu
