What's up with crazy prices for RAW books?

79 posts in this topic

Because getting a book CGC'd now is a pain in the rear end, is expensive, and takes forever. I've got a fat stack of super high grade books that I need to send off, but if I could sell them now for 60% of what I'd get for them CGC'd I'd do it in a heartbeat. For example, I've got an X-Men 114 that should grade a 9.6. That'll sell for what, $500? If I could get $300 for it raw I'd do it right now. The present value of cash is always better than future value, especially when you have to factor in all the other variables.

Sorry I am a little late to this thread, but let me tell you that boojiwbucket is one of the best ebay sellers out there. I had several holes in my Batman run filled by them and am always on the lookout for their auctions. They are very accurate graders and have some great stuff.

As was already said, the value on this book is not sky high. If CGC had a bad day and graded it a 9.4, it probably would have gone for around the same end price as this auction. For some people, they don't have the time, or care to take that risk when he can get cash in hand selling it raw, and be done with it. Personally, I wouldn't do it on solid 9.4+ books, but that's me.

Well, that makes my point even stronger. If retail is $300 on this book CGC slabbed, and I can sell if for $180, I'll do that in a second. My total "loss" on the book at $180 would be only about $50, given the cost of slabbing and the shipping, and that $180 I can put to work for me NOW and not have to wait three months.

makes what stronger...u mentioned that "it is worth, what $500?" if you get $150 for it raw, sell it but good luck finding a buyer on line for it or at a show. If you can grab $150 for it, take it and run.

Indeed! Theirs is one of the few "seller newsletters" that I haven't cancelled! Great stuff!
