Definition in movie terms of F around and find out, Todd Phillips. Cannot be a bigger disaster then what has happened to this series and movie.

going to be a close race for the US crown

Captain Marvel US BO $427M, The Marvels $85M = down 80%

Joker US BO $335M, Folly #2 ? but looks like less than $67M = ^^

Very selective metrics. But not shocking.

?

Literally only two of those are comic book movies - and both have already been mentioned in this thread, with Joker 2's performance being worse than each.

And if the rest of the list you pulled is "worse 2nd weekend drops of all-time" (and includes limited run re-releases) well, you've just underscored the point.

Oh - I forgot one:

Joker 2's drop looks to be steeper than even that of noted superhero classic The Flash's -72.5%.

:roflmao:at the idea of defending Joker 2's poor box office showing with "It might not be as bad as Gigli."

Who was defending Joker 2's drop-off? Other than you haunting yet another thread to celebrate the failure of a comic book movie, nobody was defending anything.

Unfortunately, there are so many more than the two you like to fixate on.

The thing that always makes me curious is: WHO'S WATCHING THESE FLOPS?!  Between word of mouth, social media, and news outlets, where is there $2.8M worth of people still going to see this slop in theaters?

With the word of mouth being so bad, I can only assume that at least half of those people are going out of curiosity.

The original was only Oscar-nominated (for best song) but the drop-off between Grease and Grease 2 (starring Michelle Pfeiffer) was harsh.

See also 2001: A Space Odyssey vs. 2010.

That`s a good comparison. Also, I just thought of Exorcist and Exorcist 2.

As this ever happened before with another film series, as in the first movie Joker won Oscars, a critically acclaimed and billion-dollar box office hit, while its sequel might win Razzies, critically panned, and a box office flop?

hm

It's not always about the first to the sequel that becomes a disappointment. It's also about longer franchises.

Ant-Man & The Wasp => Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

City Slickers => City Slickers 2: The Legend of Curly’s Gold

Dumb and Dumber => Dumb and Dumber To (jumping past Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd)

The Godfather II => The Godfather III

Jaw => Jaws 2

Terminator 2 => Terminator 3

Thor: Ragnarok => Thor: Love and Thunder

Some concepts just run their full course.

And I thoroughly enjoyed the first Ant-Man movies. So much fun. Then the third came along....

:p

At least your honest. I respect that others may not like it and I didn't think it was too bad, but to be serious about it, I'm glad everyone has an idea about it. Like I said they lost me at the judge hammer of justice, fun; quirky; or just down right silly lol all in good fun :)

Phew!

That was close.

With estimates coming in at $7.0 million for this weekend, Joker 2's drop is only 81.5% - so Ben Affleck and J-Lo's Gigli is safe.

Good for # 4 for the weekend, behind:

  • Terrifier 3;
  • The Wild Robot; and
  • Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
