I wanted to update interested parties on my latest activities in the 35 cent variant arena. Through typical hard work and some plain old fashioned luck, I happened on to an original owner collection of mid/high grade 35 cent variants. The seller lives reasonably close to me so we were able to meet in person and have a bit of discussion after the "crass exchange of money for comics".

Bottom line: I was able to pick up a total of 100 different 35 cent variants and one dupe. Of this group, roughly 35 -40 were books that I was missing. The balance make up my duplicates. thumbsup2.gif

While there are no Westerns, I did ask the seller if he read them. The answer was yes. If so where were they? The answer: If they didn't have it for 35 cents you couldn't find it! So it seems that there were not collectors in his area at the time that somehow knew about the different prices. All he knew is his money output increased a lot , for the time. As for the Westerns, he just couldn't find them or he would have bought them. So NO 30 cent issues were available...period!

Anyway, I paid the seller good money and we both came out ahead, I believe. I probably overpaid for some and underpaid for others. I happen to manage stock portfolios, including my own, for a living and the market has treated my family well this last year or so. I went the KMart route on the 30 cent variants on the 35 centers , I have decided to pay "retail".

Anway I have two lists below. The first is what I need still. The second is what I have in duplicates. Trades will take precedent well ahead of an outright sale. I should say though that with the scarcity of these, I plan on selling or trading all dupes eventually as a lot of collectors will certainly need or want these and I certainly don't need a ton of money tied up in duplicate 35 centers. So if you have any of the books I need, feel free to PM me with an offer. You can also e-mail me at glenn@malloys.org. I am still hoping to find a nice copy of Kid Colt 207 in the 30 cent variant. A trade for that would trump all other trades, currently.

The copyright info says 1976 when it should be 1977.

We have a winner! smile.gif

You see dates from the previous year on January and February books all the time (because they were actually printed the previous year). Every once in a while a March book will be that way... But I don't recall ever seeing a June book with the previous copyright date... 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

This one would throw me off when digging through boxes because all I look for is year, month, and price. Seeing 35c on a 1976 would be more than a little unexpected... smile.gif

Did we ever determine why this had the 1976 copyright??? I personally can't see how it could be a bad thing, but I am curious if any other TOD #57 have the same Copyright date on them confused-smiley-013.gifconfused-smiley-013.gifconfused-smiley-013.gifconfused-smiley-013.gifconfused-smiley-013.gifconfused-smiley-013.gif

I am not going to run and add a side note to the auction about if being some super rare variant of a variant or anything, I just think it's an interesting situation!!! 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

I live in Miami. I wish I could go but I have to be up in Altamonte Springs the very next week so I won't be able to make it this year. Do you know of any good comic book shops with lots of bronze-age stock in the area? I've been to Coliseum of Comics before... any others worth checking out? Thanks.
