Anyone know the deal on the Tec 35 that got pulled on ebay? Scam?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160408598921&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I am so annoyed at this. I tried contacting the seller and asked why it was pulled but got no response.

Got an offer he couldn't refuse? If you could work out a deal and avoid as many fees as possible, why not? ebay rules be damned.

 Probably true. I hate that. Looking through the seller's other items for sale it would seem they are an antique seller. Maybe they just stumbled upon this book somewhere (luckiest find ever) and do not know comics. If they did sell it under the table the buyer may have gotten a real steal on it. :sorry:

I was watching that too. I assumed they got an offer they couldn't refuse. :(

It stinks. :frustrated:

That's frustrating. I bet the seller was bombarded with so many inquires and I won't be surprise it will end up be a in CGC holder and up for auction in the future.

My other theory was that as well. That the seller might not have known what they had and when they saw the interest perhaps they realized that it is a valuable book.

I would not be surprised either. And by then it will command a "ton" of $$$ to obtain most likely.

That is a cool Batman with a smoking gun. Kids must have loved reading and looking at that issue back then. Yeah, that's a big $$$$ money book. That 6.5 on CL sold for a bundle last year.

35's cover is incredible. And the splash is equally incredible. It's a very solid book. And is firmly my 2nd fav book of the Pre-Robins.

Going to be a trouble finding one.

Dear Helen and Pop,

We noticed the Detective 35 you had for sale and wanted to advise you on the opportunity for this rare and valuable comic. While you may finish the auction through ebay, we'd recommend you go through our auctions site which is exclusive to high end comics such as yours. We have a buyers list of over 10,000 clients who have purchased comics worth over $1000. We recently sold a Detective Comic #27 for over $1 Million dollars.

If you decide to submit your comic through our auction services we can give you a special offer reducing our auction fee by 20%. There are quite a few steps you will need to take and that we can walk you through in order to maximize the sale of your Detective 35. We'd be happy to help. If you decide to finish the auction through ebay, we do wish you good luck. Please let us know as soon as possible as our next auction concludes in April.

Have a great day and we hope to hear from you soon.

Signed

It is a joke but would a letter like this be out of the realm of reasonableness for any of the folks doing auctions in this day and age?

That is exactly about how heritage does it though. I knew you were kidding but I would not doubt anything now-a-days. Who knows perhaps that scenario did play out.

We'll see in April lol

(tsk) Comiclink and others should really not do that. Wish they wouldn't

Everyone wants a piece of the pie. Here's to CL when they did that :makepoint: It's a fast and furious market...so be careful. Collect what you enjoy and you will be a winner. ^^

MYSTERY SOLVED!

I finally got a response from the seller:

"Thank you very much for your interest in my Detective Comics, number 35, Batman issue.

I was so inundated with so many questions concerning so many aspects of the condition of this comic which I just could not answer. One Ebayer was kind enough to advise me that I would be better of, since I know nothing about comics, to send it to CGC for appropriate grading instead od providing Ebayers with my own, perhaps incorrect, grading of this comic.

Please contact me in a few days and I will let you know what the grading is and what I plan to do with this comic book.

Thank you again."

Also sent me a message with their e-mail and told me to e-mail in a few days.
