Cross posting from the Recent Precode Purchases thread.  Received from board member Johnny545 yesterday.  Bill Everett cover and a story by Russ Heath.

Mid run Uncanny and years before that Strange guy came along at Marvel…

 

Another solid Carl (Human Torch) Burgos cover.

 

 

This one has some very cool insides. First the opening title appeared years before Marvel had their own nameless one (always cool to see earlier uses of names and tag lines)

 

 

Everett has a story too.

 

But for me the lead cover story (although the actual story has no resemblance to the cover action) is so sweet due to the artist. I grew up reading Jack Katz and his First Kingdom series in the 1970’s when doing Indy books was still early on until it exploded in the 1980’s….

A couple new Uncannys in this week. In addition to awsome Everett covers, these issues include some real nice interior work by the likes of Torres, Orlando and Powell. Right at the birth of the code in 1955. I still almost consider these books GA…

My goal was to have the pre code run of this title plus a small group of specific code issues. I believe I’m done with it now.

I think that if issue 50 had been pre-code, the hands in the forefront would have been skeleton, and the guys expression would have been displaying shock.  The two figures in the background would have also been more menacing looking. 

AFA issue 53, it could almost have come out in late '54 as-is, when they were taming down the horror covers.
