This.

Exactly.  Social distancing is how we’ll get through this.  Letting our collective guards down in the summer, without a viable inoculation regimen available would invite dire problems in the fall.  Collectors have a broad spectrum of options to enjoy group participation via the internet without physical contact. Think of the collecting community as practitioners of safe sects.  (thumbsu

You should send your email to these two donkeys (will it let me type jackases? No it won't) and their followers:  https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/31/us/louisiana-pastor-arrest-tony-spell/index.html

I wouldn't be surprised if the Convention Center is still being used as the primary resource for housing the homeless come July,

and that's without considering the time and cost to clean/sterilize the Center once it's not used for this purpose, or if the governor has lifted the public gathering ban by then.

But there is no way the Convention Center will be ready for general public use in 90 days.

i think the CGC GA community should sent a joint message to SDCC and NYCC with your suggestions. Let’s do it

There's absolutely no point for the tiny niche GA community to send anything at all to SDCC because we are just so far off their radar screens years ago already.  :(

Now, if it was the big movie and TV studios, then they would more than likely perk right back up and listen attentively to what they have to say.  :frustrated:  :censored:

About the only niche fan community that might be ready to open up San Diego are the “Furry” cosplayers.  I don’t know if Furries are hazmat compatible, but their presence would undoubtably help promote social distancing.

Anyone who thinks there will be a comic convention anywhere in California this summer is delusional. Even in a best case scenario where places are reopening and people are getting back to work by June, events like conventions, music festivals and sporting events, where thousands end up in close proximity, wont be happening until not only is there a vaccine, but it has been widely distributed. Even if there are effective treatments that greatly reduce severity and mortality by then, that doesn't mean it's a good idea to increase the chances it spreads rapidly again. There is going to be a several month lag time between appearing to have the pandemic under control, and returning to situations where thousands of people are packed together in a confined space.

It's getting closer to "squeaky bum" time for SDCC.  Organizers appear to be weighing their options and waiting for a few remaining hotels to clear any financial liabilities they may have from cancelation.

Just came across this...

https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/business/tourism/story/2020-04-10/canceled-conventions-costing-san-diego-203m-so-far

While the Covid-19 pandemic curve does appear to be flattening, social distancing will remain paramount for the foreseeable future.

I dearly love SDCC, but events of this magnitude have no way to get around this...  (shrug)

:news:   SDCC officially cancelled today...

As this new reality settles in, perhaps we can visualize and advance some interactive ideas going forward.  Some ideas may be too complicated, but we should be able to find creative, fun ways to keep the GA collecting community connected even if it’s unconventional (pun intended)!  (thumbsu

But they can smell you sweat

If exposed your ole-factory might shut down and your Bat-sense of smell could go out of business.  :baiting:

Upon further consideration, masks, cowls and capes may become a required part of social distancing guidelines for fans at future conventions!  If everyone is in costume cos-play won’t be special anymore.  Booth blocking and amateur paparazzi photography could become a thing of the past!

Hey, maybe the new normal has an up-side after all.

The truly sad thing about all this is dealer now frowns on you licking the comics to see how they taste before buying them.

This may also encourage dealers raising prices to a point of being nothing to sneeze at.
