Hello,

New to the boards. Would appreciate any grading thoughts on this copy of Superboy 197. There are 4 color breaking spine breaks, one at the upper staple, and a few minor finger dents. Slight rip on the back. Nice gloss on cover.

Thanks for your time and input. L.E.

Really hard to give an accurate grade without a full back cover pic

With that said...8.5

Sorry about that, here's one. I really appreciate your input. I feel pretty comfortable with high grade moderns but despite watching a bunch of tutorials and reading a lot on these boards I have a way to go on mid to high range older comics.  :)

Beautiful fresh copy of one of my favorite Bronze DC's.  The key is what they do with that back cover fraying. Absent that it looks to be 9.0 - maybe even 9.2. So will CGC consider that to be from the cutting and binding process (that's what it looks like to me) and ignore it, or consider it a defect and knock it down to 8.0 or so.  I don't know.  I wouldn't grade it. I would keep it in a mylar and enjoy the beautiful front cover.

Thank you, I do have it in mylar with a full back. It looks like a cutting error to me but I have no idea how CGC would view such a thing as you said. It's definitely a sentimental favorite cover for me; I think this was the first back issue I ever saved up money to buy from my LCS.
