I got teary eyed seeing this, but as a kid, they probably didn't consider the value later in life as a collectable.

I can understand. As a kid, I didn't consider the possible later value of my pokemon cards. And that goes for almost every other kid in the late 90s, or else we wouldn't be seeing the prices they are getting for high grade ones right now.

In the early 1960's, I put baseball cards in the spokes of my bike. Of course, it wasn't my favorite players or team. I wasn't too fond of Mickey Mantle and the NY Yankees...

For me it was Gretzky. My neighbour was a rabid Oilers fan, and I was a Habs fan (since then, I've become more of a Leafs and any Canadian team fan). That 79/80 OPC set was the first sportscard set I collected. So he would ask me for any Oilers cards, and I would trade for goalies (that's all I cared about collecting back then). But as the season dragged on, I kept hearing about Gretzky this, and Gretzky that, and so whenever I'd pull one out, I'd put it on the spokes of my bike and ride by his place to rub it in.  A few years ago, I rediscovered a shoe box with all those goalie cards from that set, and thankfully I had the presence of mind to keep some Gretzky's in the common pile. I've certainly come around since, and no question he's the GOAT. Here's a shot I took the other day actually - I just love the OPC 80/81 Super Action card (#125), probably my favourite Gretzky, and easily one of the top action pose sportscards out there.

I used to carefully erase the pupils on the eyes on my mom’s magazines. She was none too happy.

At one time I found a bunch of Fox and Fiction House jungle GGA books. The original kid owner had penciled in all the “private parts” throughout.
