Last sale was $720 in 2021.  Last 8.5 sold for $274 in Dec 2022.  Last 9.2 sold for $663 in Dec 2022.

I don't see anything that would warrant such a price.

A 9.4 did sell for $1800 in Jan 2022.  I guess if that is your only price reference you might pay $1350 for this book.

There are also not many sales of this book overall in the GPA, so maybe there was some FOMO?

Makes sense...it's also an older label so maybe someone thought it could get a grade bump with a press? (shrug)

Joeyoung, that’s a lot of books you’ve sold!

My wife WISHES! :D

That number represents books on my Watch List that have Sold.  Books I've sold would be under the Dashboard.  That number is 0.  Like roaches, the books check in, but they don't check out.

When you need a manual to understand and use a website, your UI probably needs some work.

Won a 4.5 graded pre-code horror book in tonight's comic connect auction by pure luck where it caught my eye when it was about too end and happen to win with my throw away bid. Looking at what I got it for and comparing it to sold listings I saw that I was able to get it for cheaper than it sold for the past few years in the same or similar grade. One that sold on cc in 2020 in the same grade and two on Heritage, an ungraded copy that sold in 2019 and one that sold for almost double mine graded at 4.0 which sold in 2022.

What I noticed though was how cheap this book was in high grade in only 2016-17 when looking at CC sold listings. A 8.5 copy in 2017 sold for less than the 2022 sale of a 4.0 and a 9.6 high grade pedigree copy sold for only a little more than that in the same year. I can only image what those same copies would sell for now. So while it seems that prices did soften in comparison to the 20-22' sales it seems that prices overall are still healthy from before lockdown collecting hikes. At least for some collecting categories like pre-code horror.

And the only other copy I've seen in 20+ years with the full M visible in Marvel.   The only the copy with proper wrap is the Curator copy.

several boardies here last year were predicting prices would return to 2020 pricing once the pandemic bubble burst. i was skeptical that they would fall that much, but this book is at least one example of that being accurate. this is right where pricing was in 2020 for this grade according to gpa. basically double what it was worth in 2018, but far, far from the highs achieved in the crazy times of 2021 and early 2022.

Yes, was trying to finished off reading all of the market reports reports in the current Overstreet guide before the new editoin comes out next month.  It's like night and day when you see what's happening in the post-GA marketplace today as compared to what was being reported for 2021 and early 2022.  (:

Although a few advisors made it sound like AF 15 was such a rock solid investment that you would never ever see it go down in value, most of the advisors did acknowledged that the wild and crazy party of 2021/22 could not be sustain longer term and was bound to end eventually.  (thumbsu  :frown:

In June of 2022 my top 50 were valued at $42,000.00, in December of 2022 the top 50 were valued at $36,000.00 and as of June 2023, $31,000.00, according to this, prices are still falling.

Any breakdown to the descent by ages in terms of GA, SA, BA, CA, etc. so that we have a better idea where the biggest drops are taking place?  :(

Such a breakdown would be too simplistic IMHO.

I don't think it's about "ages" -- it's about supply in grade.  By definition, most if not all GA books are going to be scarce in any reasonable grade.  By the Silver Age, there will usually be a grade at which census numbers drop off -- depending on the book, that could be as low as 8.0 and as high as 9.4.  By the Bronze Age, the line is usually at 9.6 or even 9.8.  For modern books, even 9.8s might simply be too plentiful to support pandemic prices.

How far back does your data go?  What price would your books be at the end of 2019?  I think when most books revert back to 2019 prices (a lot of non keys already have) will be telling.

I'm basing my observations on the fact that I'm actively buying in this environment -- mostly 9.6 SA/BA upgrades, plus a handful of 9.4 early SA upgrades that I'm still chasing.  While I've seen some letting up on prices for the books I buy, I don't see anything like the free fall being described over and over in this thread.

Prices are falling but somehow ROM Spaceknight #1 has become almost a $300 book in 9.8.

ROM #1 9.8 at around $200-$300 is pretty much the range it's been even in the couple of years before the COVID Craze, I think.  It was a $500+ comic during the COVID Craze, then tanked back down to normal this year.  Now, people started buying again (somewhat) because the prices were lower than what it had been selling for pre-COVID.  I don't think paying $300 for a 9.8 is historically too out of line adjusting for inflation and "dead cat bouncing" (to borrow a stock trading term).  If I start seeing a bunch of $400+ sales, I know lunacy is setting in - either that, or hey here comes a R.O.M. movie!

I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a 9.8 copy, too, tbh - just for nostalgia.  Always thought he was pretty cool when I was a kid. lol.  I have a 9.8 where the front cover is basically half-ripped-off from back when I was a kid that I will eventually replace.

I bought a copy for $200 in 2019 and got lucky and sold it for $450 during the crazy years.  I’d think $250 - $300 is pretty much where it should be.

We can only speak our own truths.  I’m glad your collecting niche is not seeing a huge drop but if you look at the charts being shown there is really no doubt which way the market is currently going.  Time will tell if it’s a correction or a full scale retreat.
