Design Inspiration Sought…Alternative storage to long boxes?
2 2

12 posts in this topic

Hey everyone. So I’m building out a new entertainment room and was thinking of incorporating the collection to the entertainment room. I was wondering if anyone has done anything similar (and used something other than the long-boxes).

I guess I’m really asking for some inspiration. I’ve been storing with long boxes for nearly 30 years so I cannot really picture anything else. Any suggestions (and photos!) would be very appreciated.

Thanks!

That's what I used for years. I had six lateral file cabinets that  each held twenty BCW short boxes perfectly. I don't like the quality of the boxes but they are the only ones I found that fit. While these cabinets can retail for over $1,000, I've found them at auction for as low as $10.  You should pay no more than $50-$100 on them.  I recently sold four for $175. Their biggest problem is they are a pain to move.

I never use long boxes for the simple reason that they're inaccessible when full and I've always preferred short boxes. I did try one of these black plastic comic containers on a whim that BCW (?) is making and I like it a lot. I only have one so far but believe they're stackable.

I hate having stacks of boxes its so hard to find anything and get to anything easily. I always have wanted something like file cabinets but I haven't found anything right yet. I want something like this, though I can't afford some custom thing....

collectiondrawer.com  has some great choices. I mostly use the short boxes because the havy are really bulky. Get the clips and you can make a brick 12 boxes wide and up to six high, with every box being fully accessible. Some of mine are fifteen years old and still holding up fine.

They may be pricey but it's a one time purchase.

This.  I think it was @Sweet Lou 14(?) who had some nice hardwood built-in’s made for his entertainment room?  It’s somewhere in that thread from a couple(?) years ago.

Yep, that was me ... pages 418 and 424 on the thread for anyone who's curious.
