Vixom Posted June 13, 2021 Share Posted June 13, 2021 I got these little chart things which I suppose could be useful. You could compare same books. I just use the eyeball test. I am the one looking at the book so what someone elses opinion on the page quality doesn't matter. As for cgc they have no idea. If the center of each page is white, but the borders are off-white (beginning to darken), the designation will be white/off-white. The edges darken first, usually. If it says just "off-white", the pages have darkened slightly from the edge right across to the middle, showing further discoloration. Acids in the paper break it down over time, darkening the paper. Newsprint was not meant to be a long term, archival quality material. People want to know the progress of that deterioration, especially since it is going to be encapsulated, unable to be viewed. Might get white, but at least OW/W from what I can see. And there are lots of different colored pages...you'd be amazed at CGC's list...
