Grading impact of detached staple
3 3

I have only been collecting about 4 years, and have only submitted to CGC a handful of times. How much do you think a detached staple affects the grade on an otherwise mid-range book? I have a comic that is probably a 6.5 except that the bottom staple is also detached from the cover. It was a clean tear (just a small slit in the cover where the staple used to be) with the rest of the book still looking like a solid 6.5. How much do you think this decreases the grade? Thank you!

This question is a better fit in the Grading and Restoration Questions forum as here we grade and need pics to do so.

That being said, you're looking at around 6.0 for a comicbook with the cover detached at one staple. If the book is otherwise great. You still may be looking at that grade if all other flaws fall within the FN range.

Sorry, but I think a detached staple is regarded as a 'major defect' and when you combine that with the rest of the wear and tear which you say is about a 6.5, overall you're probably looking at like a 5 or even a 4.
