shadroch
This was one of the most exasperating experiences I've had in close to twenty years on the bay. I bought a nice run of vintage baseball cards and was shopping for some big boxes to store them. I order them from a place ,and within seconds realize I want one size larger- I look for a phone number but it isn't in the ad so I cancel the order with ebay, saying I ordered the wrong item, intending to order the right items when I'm refunded. Details deleted as I had a number of pms asking about the particular seller. I'd delete the whole thread if possible. Would you blast him, thank him for the quick refund, or not leave anything. I assume I can still leave feedback even after the refund. Edited September 9, 2021 by shadroch

I bought a nice run of vintage baseball cards and was shopping for some big boxes to store them. What I wanted was a box that holds 1600, nd I needed two of them. I order them from a place ,and within seconds realize I want one size larger- the 2400 count. I look for a phone number but it isn't in the add so I cancel the order with ebay, saying I ordered the wrong item, intending to order the right items when I'm refunded. The next day I'm notified that the seller refused to cancel the order. I send him a message explaining the situation and he writes back that he is out time and ebay fees and is sick of paying for other peoples mistakes. He implies that I should be the one to pay for my mistake ,not him. I write back saying that his listing accepts refunds within thirty days so I'll just send it back and that I intend to leave him negative feedback. Let's just say he didn't appreciate it and told me in the future to not waste his time and buy elsewhere. He ended by saying he would send me nothing and I could chase a refund from ebay. I contacted ebay but was told I had to wait a week to make any claim. Just now, as I was beginning to write this, ebay notified me I'd gotten a refund. Would you blast him, thank him for the quick refund, or not leave anything. I assume I can still leave feedback even after the refund. Since you mentioned you would leave negative feedback he can easily have it removed as this is considered feedback extortion. Never mention feedback in communication with sellers positive or negative. D84, AJD, PopKulture and 3 others 5

Tnexus
While he sounds grumpy, Ebay doesn't always refund fees even if it's the buyers fault. So he may be stuck paying for your mistake. Frankly just move on. It's not worth it. thehumantorch and PopKulture

So it is deposited directly to the sellers bank, and if he has to do a refund hes out the fees which could be substantial if the amount was high. Some buyers know this and will shoot a short complaint to try and get a partial refund, and threaten to do a return that the seller would be out the fees. This is another reason why @D2 in the other thread was so adamant about raws and Ebay, buyer might complain to complain and shake the money tree to see what falls Edited September 8, 2021 by ADAMANTIUM
shadroch
The total charged to my paypal was $38 and included my $2 donation to charity- which wasn't refunded. What would it cost him in fees to refund $36? Would he have been hit with fees if I canceled two minutes in?
D84
If it was my mistake, I wouldn't threaten to leave negative feedback. Sorry, but you handled this badly and it would be petty to leave negative feedback.

No I want to say the percentage lost by a seller is like 2%, that's why I said it had to be a high sale price, not your specific circumstance, but since you had been away I thought you should know. His response to you was "I'm tired of paying for others mistakes" That's what you said he said, I was letting you know that he wasnt being facetious Yes once you pay for a product, and refund fees is on the seller Edited September 9, 2021 by ADAMANTIUM

comicginger1789
I’d just move along if I got my refund…..you can choose not to deal with said person and I’m sure if he really is a crummy seller, some feedback would already have been out in to reflect. I wouldn’t leave negative feedback. You made a mistake, he got peesed, words were said, light threats made, you got your money. Spend the time finding the boxes you need instead of worrying about it further PopKulture and ADAMANTIUM 1

I agree cancelling to correct the order seems like an easy Ebay call to remove fees? Except Ebay changed their number, I dont even know what it is if there is one. Only deal online chat, get 2 or three answers to same question . I mean it's crazy Lol if you didnt know then I agree that would seem like a simple request and that the seller was out of left field But sadly no he wasnt. It's the Ebay drag Edited September 9, 2021 by ADAMANTIUM

shadroch
I'm wondering if he is a member or a lurker here as I got an ebay message where he apologized for the tone of his message. He also explained eBays policy and I've got to say it is ridiculous. I've been thinking of trying to sell some old toys on it but now will use other means. The Bay should charge a restocking fee and make it very clear to the buyers that the money does not go to the sellers. I can't imagine serious merchants agreeing to this. Does it go away when you reach a certain status or sales level? ADAMANTIUM

Does it go away when you reach a certain status or sales level? It's a newish policy, but to my knowledge, no there is no tier level where it goes away. I think in the beginning Ebay was good about helping sellers and or buyers in this kind of situation, but it just adds another needless step that can be hard to keep up with due to volume. I appreciate the seller realizing it was an honest mistake Shame Ebay shame! Ebay sent out a survey the other day and I hope enough people complained! Imagine yourself being a seller and being threatened by someone who had bought the wrong thing from you. His initial response, to refuse to fix it for you, was probably not the coolest approach but I see their point. I also do not like it when someone has a problem and then it somehow becomes my problem. On a good day I'll help them but on a bad day I'll send them packing. This seller had enough on that day. Selling on eBay is hard. It sucks balls. You tried to quickly address your mistake and that is good but still too late. That kind of mistake can't be undone without some effort from the seller. If they fix it in a few minutes then that is still time out of their life. They don't want to be spending their time on customer service for a few bucks and I don't blame them. ttfitz, D84, kav and 2 others
Popular Post ttfitz
I think you both handled it wrong. Yes, your initial impulse was right, just cancel the order and order the right thing later, no harm, right? He's probably being straight with you about having to "pay for other people's mistakes" and was kinda grumpy about it when he should have explained that it wasn't a "no harm" sort of thing, but then you went right to the "I'll just make a return later and give you a neg" when maybe you should have said, "I meant to order the bigger one, can we do something else to pay the difference?" And of course your response was just the right thing to make him dig in - after all, that's the sort of thing he's probably had to deal with before. So I'd say just let it go. shadroch
It's been years since I've sold on ebay and I don't know why anyone puts up with such unfriendly policies. At what point is is no longer worth being squeezed for every penny and then kicked in the balls just because? sevans1979 and PopKulture
kav
How about this for a solution-contact him, tell him you made a mistake and want the other item then pay the difference somehow. ttfitz
