RickSp
Considering we know practically nothing about this iteration of the Penguin it's hard to tell if this is a good idea or not! I'm pretty sure The Batman is going to be really good and Farrell might come out with something special here, depends how big a part he gets. HBO Max might be on a path for numerous 'spin offs' that could be their equivalent of the Disney + marvel shows. Larryw7
Gatsby77
Why tho? Robin Lord Taylor's portrayal of a young Cobblepot in Gotham was *by far* the best part of that show. Maybe the thought is if they can actually get Farrell to sign, they'd have the next Peaky Blinders on their hands. Disagree. I think that Riddler was the best part.
theCapraAegagrus
This is another example of DC putting the cart before the horse. Remember when they announced movies for all of the JL characters before cancelling almost all of them? Oh, and they did it again a few years later with New Gods, and The Trench. That's exactly what all these show announcements remind me of.

Farrell will first portray the villainous character in “The Batman” starring Robert Pattinson, which is due to be released on March 4, 2022. Bosco685
THE BATMAN Director Matt Reeves Breaks Down Plans For THE PENGUIN Spinoff And A Future "Batverse" Quote For Reeves, The Batman is the first part of a much larger plan. "What I really wanted this movie to do is create a Batverse," he tells EW. "You don't do a story and go, 'This is Chapter 1' because you might not get to do Chapter 2. So, the story had to stand on its own. But the thing about it is that the Bat world is so rich with character that as you're starting to come to an end, you can already start thinking about the next thing. Because the idea, of course, is that Gotham's story never ends." Reeves didn't elaborate on the GCPD series he's working on, but says that The Penguin's show will be "this kind of 'American dream in Gotham' sort of story, almost like Scarface; the rise of this character who we all know will achieve mythic status. He is underestimated and he's like a time bomb."

Bosco685
Quote In what comes as no surprise given the running $301M global grossing success of The Batman, HBO Max has given a straight-to-series order to the pic’s spinoff series The Penguin which will see Colin Farrell reprising his villainous role from the pic as one of Gotham’s legendary kingpins. As The Batman director Matt Reeves told us on Hero Nation, Penguin picks up where the movie left off in regards to Penguin. In addition, the original Batman spinoff series that Reeves conceived centering around a corrupt cop in events preceding the movie; that is no longer moving forward at HBO Max. The Penguin, which is the working title of the show, is executive produced by Reeves, Dylan Clark, Farrell, and Lauren LeFranc, who writes and serves as showrunner. Gatsby77
Farrell's performance was one of the highlights of The Batman for me. He seemed to be self-consciously copying DeNiro's Al Capone voice, accent and cadence from The Untouchables, but it worked for me.
