Yes.  For the record, she called it the Triple-Jumbo.  She claims she had a part in its creation.  If I remember correctly, it was 6 of their regular hamburger pattys combined into 3 large pattys.  Along with onion, pickles, cheese and whatever else they put on their cheeseburgers.

It was the absolute most meat I have ever eaten in my entire life.  Yes, I realize that last sentence might bring me some interesting responses.

Not from me...🤐

Just a general, screaming-into-the-void type comment, directed at no one in particular.

I hope I live long enough to see social media administrators of all types across every platform on the internet realize that creating "safe spaces"  that are "all inclusive" is impossible. Once you get more than a few people together in a group, there will be clashes of culture, personality, and just basic temperament. And when you're talking about online communication via the written word, just plain old misunderstandings are inevitable. The type of soft hazing we used to do around here which, in the culture broadly, has fallen way out of fashion, served a purpose. It forced "newbies" to learn to take responsibility for their own feelings, and not expect an already established group to immediately accommodate those feelings.

My 2 cents about moderation is that the heavy-handed approach does not work. You can draw your limits around outright attacks/insults/threats, but you can't create or control the "climate" from the top down. A more positive climate happens with social cohesion, and social cohesion also cannot be arranged with a bunch of rules. It happens when individuals make an effort to adapt to the group, as opposed to trying to make the group adapt to them.

Just to use the TWSS nonsense as an example, trying to get people to stop saying it by making a rule doesn't work, because the people who are beating everyone to death with it are ignoring social cues. And they can do this because our ability to dish out social cues is dampened by this misguided idea that all conflict is bad and that bullying is a necessary condition to hurt feelings. Stuff like hazing or piling-on when someone is doing something that the majority find annoying are the normal ways in which a group communicates to the "offender" that they need to moderate their own behavior, at which point they either adapt or leave.

Again, just throwing my 2 cents into the void. I'm glad to see CGC throwing some resources into moderation.

I feel bullied.

Which button do I hit for that and when will you be banned?

Thank you for your post.  You make some very good points.  I agree that heavy handed moderation is not the way to go. Just before I became "official", I started posting missing rules in most of the FS threads, and allowed people 24 hours to make changes.  I also marked most of the reports complete vs taking action.  I have also communicated will multiple board members privately, to help them understand ways to avoid moderator action.  The ones that listened saw a huge change for the better regarding posting restrictions.  Also, some people that were in conflict have resolved their differences.  Another thing I do is make a post in the thread where an argument is occurring, vs issuing warnings.   In the past, many things were marked under review, and left for an admin, who would show up once a week for an hour.  That led to a lot of warnings, and set a precedent for future moderation action.  Since, I have took over and am here full time, I have taken a different approach.  I first reached out to the admin towards the end of September, saying I would be taking over soon, and explained my new direction.  So, that person basically stopped then. Yesterday, I was looking at 2 graphs.  The 1st graph shows the warnings, and the second shows reported content.  Note the downhill trend.

Your light handed but involved moderation has been noticed.  Seems to be the way to go.

Honeymoon period.

Mike's doin' a good job BUT trust me, people will start to take advantage, and then he's gonna have to bring out the iron fist.

Lookin' forward to seeing lifetime bans for TWSS, pics of DiCaprio and other such tomfoolery such as excessive horse beating :deadhorse:.       :cloud9:

I dont think its a honeymoon period-people were trolling like usual, and instead of giving out strikes like has happened in the past mike used his communication skills.  Thats what is making the difference.

You're missing my point. He'll be forced to take a different tack when people excessively take the pee.

How many times for example has he asked something to stop?, not saying what, and it doesn't. What would you do in that situation?

Be honest.

when he asks ppl to stop-they stop.  In one case he had to issue a warning.  This is completely different from the old days when conflict happened, and maybe 4 days later you got a strike with no explanation.  It's a complete change in moderation.

Kav. I can read. I know that. I'm not criticising the policy, just the abusers.

I guess time will tell me old mucker.

PS. Before anyone wets themselves humping the button, mucker is an English word for mate. (thumbsu

Sounds good to me, and who can argue with graphs?

Just the fact that you're willing to engage in the discussion and not just hand out warnings/delete threads from inside of a black box is a big improvement. .
