Watchmen TPB 1st print 1987 - $75
I'm going to call this VG/VG+ due to top spine corner and color breaking creases on top edge, along with general cover wear; book is relatively scarce in 1st print.

Infinity Gauntlet 1st print 1992 - $55
See pictures, I'm calling this FN

I'm not familiar with this particular Infinity Gauntlet book, but the "10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2" notation normally means 2nd printing.

Obviously, it says "First Printing August 1992" above that, but that is likely to be informational, not a statement about this particular book.

That's interesting.  I would have thought it was a first too.  It's just because it's missing the 1 at the end of the 10,9,8..?

Yes. True first printings include the 1 in the list of numbers (like the Watchmen photo). The lowest number shown is the printing. That Infinity Gauntlet shows a 2nd print.

Similarly, a 4th print looks like 10 9 8 7 6 5 4.

A 40th print might be

47 46 45 44 43 42 41 40

even if it says First Printing above it.

Lots of sellers get it wrong on eBay, because books will often include an informational date for first printings, but the number line (lowest number) is more important. (thumbsu

Yeah it's definitely not consistent across publisher and even within titles. Subsequent Watchmen printings do state "Fourth Printing" for instance in place of the "First Printing" text in addition to having an updated printers key. The text on this Infinity Gauntlet is unintentionally misleading.

Here's another good example:  Heir To The Empire (novel)

The first printing is from June 1991, so this copy clearly says "June 1991" at the top of the page.  Someone would probably believe it's a first printing because of the date.

But the printer's key (number line) at the bottom of the page has a lowest value of 5.  (The zero isn't a printing number, it's a placeholder for when they get to 10.)

This is a fifth printing, well after June 1991, but since it doesn't have any other dates, people might think the 5th printing was in June 1991 (same as first printing).  It was later, and undated.
