I keep recollecting an homage to this cover, or maybe it is a splash page within this comic itself (or another), but the cover/page in question has a mysterious all-black claw-like hand on the door and eyes glowing between the doors. Is anyone familiar with such a thing?

That could be it. I feel like it was darker, like the colors in the AITU cover, but the eyes here are definitely what I was remembering.

there are a few homages of the 174

and then this was posted on the boards in the past I think, someone's family member did the homage. It's not a published cover though

If it is a similar golden age cover then I wouldn't know, but does sound vaguely familiar
