No real idea, all I have is conjectures. I bought these all from a dealer who couldn't grade and didn't know how to price to sell, and then couldn't figure out why his stuff wasn't selling. My conjecture is that there were two boxes tucked away after some war-loving youngster went off to the army, and one was next to the furnace and the other was on a shelf somewhere cool, because these are divided more or less in half, first half the stuff I'm selling now, stored hot for years and turned most of the covers brittle along the spine, sometimes elsewhere. Second half is all contemporary to these, and very little trouble with them, an occasional small split or chip, but more likely to have a bit of general wear than storage problems. You'll love them when I get to them. But FIRST! The rest of this evening's fun, AND ANOTHER ENTIRE EVENING OF SPLIT SPINES AND CHIPS!
