Thanks for sharing this, Sharon! I had read a bit of it in Superman from the 30’s to the 70’s (great b&w hardcover reprint compilation from the 70s for those unfamiliar; there’s equally awesome Batman and Shazam versions as well) but they did not reprint all 5 pages — just the superbaby scenes, I think. That’s a different look for Jor-el with that two-tone outfit.

I should add in case I have sent anyone down a rabbit hole - the Shazam one is a LOT less common than the other 2, and usually pricier. But you’re probably talking a couple $10-$20 books and a $100-$150 book; all well worth it.

Gerard Jones’ Men of Tomorrow book talks about Superboy’s creation at length. He speculates that Jerry Siegel, still writing scripts for National Periodicals and already seething about missing out on profits from Superman, likely banged out this story without really thinking about it, then realized—sadly too late—that he had just given them yet another cash cow character for free. He sued in the late 40s to (among other things) try to retain the rights to the character, but was unsuccessful.

Thanks, Jon...I didn't know that.

I never even knew he was in this series until I found the More Fun issues on eBay. I knew about Adventure and Superboy...but not these.

Then again I had never heard of GA comics before eBay...

I've had this book for a long time, bought it slabbed. I normally don't even try to open slabs...but I was thinking of opening this one (actually having a friend open it, but that didn't work out) ...seeing what the "tear seals" they were  So I was getting curious and decided to try opening it myself. Low and behold, a little twist of the plastic, a butter knife to pry apart the 2 halves and here we are.

Good job! You are my hero, crackin' that book out.

Now go to you youtube and listen to The Cramps, She's Got Balls.

I only recently added More Fun to my wantlist after winning a copy of Adventure Comics #103, and realizing there were the 7 issues of More Fun with earlier Superboy stories in them.

Thanks for  posting.
