PGM Batman #171 - 1st Silver Age appearance of the Riddler 3 3

Picked up this little gem today and thinking about sending it in.

What grade do you think my Batman #171 would get?

Looks like a 3.0 to me. See what the others think. Good pickup everybody wants a Riddler

3.5, maybe 4.0 because it presents so nicely despite that gnarly spine.

Fairly wide range of opinions on this one, probly because of the disparity between a reasonably nice front cover and a scrubby spine and back cover.

The trend I'm seeing (as I learn how to do this) is to weigh the grade toward the worst features rather than the best ones though, and it's hard for me to give a 4 or a 5 considering the worst features of this book.

I give it a regretful 3.5.

Status just moved to shipped so got my grades and notes back for this one. I was a little disappointed, as I thought 3.0 was a realistic low grade.

 

2.5 OFF WHITE

ink stain left top of back cover
spine split bottom of spine
staple detached bottom of front cover
store stamp right center of front cover
writing indent center of front cover
finger bends on cover
moderate creasing to cover
moderate wear spine breaks color
soiling on cover
tears to cover

Yeah I was a bit disappointed with this grade, particularly regarding two of the notes.

I was looking at the photos again last night as I was sure this was still attached, albeit barely. I am wondering if it perhaps became detached when being handled during the submission.

It’s a price stamp not a store stamp. I thought it wasn’t supposed to have an impact on the grade when it’s an overall low grade comic. Admittedly it’s not the cleanest stamp though. Also not sure if this actually had any impact on the final grade!

I’ve been away a bit - have some house stuff to take care of.  I wanted to weigh in on this tho. I think for me the paper quality appeared to be low…. That’s what stood out to me at first.   … I don’t think the stamp had much impact on this. It’s a decent copy that presents well. About the nicest 2.5 you will see. You win some and you lose some is how I look at it.
