Journey Into Mystery #39 (Bill Everett cover) - Guess who else came over from EC this month? WALLY WOOD! He'd also do a couple of stories, this first one from  Journey Into Mystery #39... strangely enough its the last story in the comic! Writer Unknown.

Mystery Tales #45 (Sol Brodsky cover) - Steve Ditko would again do two stories for Atlas/Marvel in June, the first is this 3 pager from Mystery Tales #45. This is another story that appears in 2019's Marvel Masters of Suspense: Stan Lee & Steve Ditko #1 Omnibus, when clearly Stan didn't write the story - in fact it was written by Carl Wessler.

Strange Tales #50 (Bill Everett cover) - Steve Ditko's second story of the month would be this 4 pager from Strange Tales #50. This is yet another story that appears in 2019's Marvel Masters of Suspense: Stan Lee & Steve Ditko #1 Omnibus, when clearly Stan didn't write it. Stan didn't sign his name to any of these stories, and wouldn't until around 1961, when some of the Ditko stories started getting letters from readers asking for more stories like Ditko's. Suddenly Stan became the 'writer' and started signing his name. You'll see specifically when this happens, but that's still a few years off....

This also appears to be one of the earliest appearances of the Osborn hair style!

The second story in Young Romance #84 is one of my favorite Romance stories by Jack Kirby. Kirby's romance work always has a 50's motion picture feel to it and his characters always seem to sound to me as if they're speaking in that style - making them more realistic.

ON NEWSSTANDS JUNE 1956

Al Feldstein took over the Editor in Chief duties with Mad Magazine #29, released in June of 1956. Harvey Kurtzman, who'd been a HUGE part of making Mad what it was, asked for a HUGE part of the ownership of the magazine (51%) and Gaines turned him down. He quit and Gaines immediately hired Al Feldstein back and it became his project to run...

So what did a prolific writer like Al Feldstein do in his short time off from working for William Gaines...?

Coming up in Part TWO
