Popular Post zzutak
On 7/28/2022 at 8:57 AM, CGC Mike said: According to Mike's grade distribution table, only 124 players completed Round 1 (down from 137 at sign-up). Here are the key measures of central tendency for Round 1 (Mean = the average grade; Median = the middle grade in a numerically rank-ordered list; Mode = the most common grade) Book CGC Grade Distribution Statistics # Grade Mean Median Mode 1 1.5 1.6 1.5 1.5 2 4.5 4.3 4.0 4.0 3 3.5 3.4 3.5 3.5 4 7.0 7.7 7.5 7.5 5 9.4 9.2 9.2 9.2 Board members were generally in line with CGC on the Round 1 books. Here are a few notable observations based on the data reported above: Book #1 (Adventure Comics #37): The "easiest" book for the Board as a whole, with 33% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC, 81% within one grade increment of CGC, and a mean contestant grade essentially identical to that of CGC (1.6 vs 1.5). While CGC grades of 1.5 are not unheard of for books with detached and completely split covers, they do seem to occur most frequently with high-value late-1930s/early-1940s keys. What would a CGC Grading Contest be without at least one example of the Golden Age BumpTM? . Book #2 (Shocking Mystery #50): The "second toughest" book for the Board as a whole, with only 20% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC, and 64% within one grade increment of CGC. Collectively, the players were only slightly more critical than CGC (4.3 vs 4.5). Book #3 (Green Lantern #1): The "second easiest" book for the Board as a whole, with 29% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC, 66% within one grade increment of CGC, and a mean contestant grade essentially identical to that of CGC (3.4 vs 3.5). Book #4 (Amazing Spider-Man #39): The "toughest" book for the Board as a whole, with only 17% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC, and only 54% within one grade increment of CGC. Collectively, the players were about 1.5 grade increments more lenient than CGC (7.7 vs 7.0). Since I gave this book a 6.5, I'd advise against giving it the CPR treatment. Book #5 (Werewolf By Night #32): The Board has spoken -- this is a 9.2! Apparently, that color-break to the right of the CCA stamp is not a post-manufacturing flaw that merits either a downgrade (to 9.0/9.2) or even a mention in the Grader Notes. Kudos to Mike for the uniformly outstanding high-resolution scans. Grading from flat scans is never ideal, but I think this is about as good as it's ever gonna get. And congratulations to everyone near the top of the early Leader Board! AJD, Get Marwood & I, BDubs and 9 others 9

Axelrod
Man, I thought this was going to be my best shot at beating @joeypost for a round, but we tied! (Only because there’s a sneaky 1.8 grade between 1.5 and 2.0) All downhill from here I suspect! wiparker824
So the one we collectively were the most sure on was WWBN with 47 of us going 9.2 ….and we were still wrong, or at least 47 of us were. That’s interesting… KirbyTown

Don't worry, I don't plan to engage with insufficiently thoughtful persons that much. But I have to admit, I am finding a perverse pleasure in triggering the little yapper from time to time. Besides, @CGC Mike already said we could duke it out in the grading contest. Edited July 28, 2022 by Axe Elf
