With 11 of 34 contestants giving the Hawk #10 a 4.5 VG+, it could legitimately be argued that CGC got it wrong!  hm  :hi:

I'll rush it right back to them and ask them to make the fix. :D

I talked myself out of 7.5 for book 3.

Right? I think this is as gentle a center crease as could possibly exist... but I can see how it feels a bit jarring to call *any* book with a center crease a 7.5.

Here are the key measures of central tendency for Round 1 (Mean = the average grade; Median = the middle grade in a numerically rank-ordered list; Mode = the most common grade):

Book CGC Grade Distribution Statistics
# Grade Mean Median Mode
1 5.0 5.1 5.0 4.5
2 5.5 4.9 4.5 4.5
3 7.5 7.1 7.5 7.5

Here are a few notable observations based on the data reported above:

  • Book #1 (Detective Comics #359):  Only 8 bullseyes (24%), but the mean contestant grade was essentially identical to that of CGC (5.1 vs 5.0).
  • Book #2 (Hawk #100):  The fewest bullseyes (15%).  Collectively, the players were slightly more than one grade increment more critical than CGC (4.9 vs 5.5).
  • Book #3 (Jungle Comics #36):  The most bullseyes (35%).  Collectively, the players were almost one grade increment more critical than CGC (7.1 vs 7.5).

So much for the theory that CGC is currently in a "tough" period.  lol

Many thanks for the opportunity, Jon.  :foryou:  :foryou:

:applause:

That's the spirit!

Now remember, Albert - grade the books before you drink 15 pints of Newton and Ridleys. Before.

...I shed after...you have drunk fishteen pints, Shalbert.....after...

We need to raise our game - even the Aussies are beating us!

Yeah I’m ignoring those grader notes from now on. I admit I’m naturally a bit of a tough grader but they definitely influenced me to drop .5-1 full grade on two of those books. Like the Jungle looked beautiful but when I read “light center bend and cover tear” I figured a 7.0 would be out of question.
