Sounds like card shows. I’ve never been to the big ones but the mid ones I go to about half the dealers - usually young bro types - will pull out 6 Giannis refractors the second you point out one in their case and try to upsell you on a “sweet” package “deal.” The other half - usually older gentlemen with a disheveled look - act like getting off their stool and opening their case to show you the card that’s marked up at least 75% above book is a terrible bother. That is if you can even get their attention while they’re busy yakking it up with 3 other old dudes about all the great cards they found at garage sales.

historic sales of issues

Movies. Any book where a character is showing up in the MCU immediately gets an artificial bump bc casuals looking to “invest” jump on their first appearance. If Disney hadn’t screwed up by announcing a lady Silver Surfer, the FF book would’ve jumped more off movie hype. -
I don’t even bother with buying comics at shows. Their prices are strictly for impulse buyers or filthy casuals who don’t know any better. Toy dealers are getting almost as bad. I respect the hustle but I belong to comic con review groups on FB and don’t want to hear dealers whining about “a bad show” when they had walls of merchandise at pandemic prices.

Yes Yes they do but evidently I don’t have a sweetheart deal with them or something where I’m allowed to have a 10. The cover is literally solid metal could stop a .38 cal bullet yet I guess that’s only good enough for a 9.8

Grading Scale flaws - value of markdowns
Cman429 replied to Chris Dent's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Grading is a subjective process. One grader will see a flawless book with 2 little spine ticks and think 9.2 another will see it and say 9.6. If you want a scientific objective grading system with flaw x losing x number of points you’re in the wrong hobby. -
Blacked out certification numbers. Why?

People steal them. I once got a message on FB that someone in some group was selling my comic I had listed on eBay -
Thanks as always to Mike and his wacky emojis and the guys who post reminders that grades are due since I’m chronically late. Finished in the upper half of the standings so I’m pleased with that. Would still like to get my score to 20 or under, tho. The disturbing part of these contests is I recognize some names from the Marketplace forum and I am never sure if I should feel worried that they finished with a way higher score than me or glad that I’m buying off people who grade WAY stricter than CGC

Thanks for posting this. I struggled the most with this book - and ended up taking 2 out of my 3 total points for the round - bc I knew it looked really nice and CGC ignores foxing. I initially had it ticketed as 7.0 but thankfully dropped it to 6.0 out of caution. But nice to know I’m not crazy for initially thinking a book like that should be in the 7-7,5 range

As someone who gets 1 out his every 3 comments on yahoo rejected for “community standards” I’m very used to the online companies stifling and censoring speech. I still use their mail tho. I see a lot of people post here that they haven’t submitted a comic in x number of years - I think in the last grading contest one of the previous winners even put his prize up as consolation bc he had no interest in using it. Which is all to say if you enjoy these boards and this community you shouldn’t let the company that hosts it affect that.

AT&T's WarnerMedia & Discovery merger streaming consolidation
Cman429 replied to Bosco685's topic in The Movie Forum
Seriously what does Zaslov have to do to be fired? The guy who replaced Iger at Disney wasn’t nearly as bad and they couldn’t wait to run him out of town. Zaslov has been in charge since Day 1 of the merger and has ruined HBO’s cred as an upscale prestige streamer, probably losing the NBA (they for sure want Amazon), wrecked the DCU, tanked the stock and ran up the debt.- 284 replies

CGC doesnt grade polybagged books in the bag. They ask you to remove it from the bag before sending it in or it gets rejected. And they might note “polybagged edition” on the slab notes but they’re not going to write “item was removed from original polybag by owner”

1st Edition Playboy Graded and ready to GO!!
Cman429 replied to Miss Ivy's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Put it on EBay with the other 100 people selling theirs on there. If you’re not sure the price, find one graded same as yours and undercut them by $5. Unless this was just a clever attempt to circumvent the sites post count to sell something in which case, well done and buyer beware. -
Have you seen Frank lately? I met him in February at Megacon and, well, let’s just say he’s the comics equivalent of Joe Biden. The fact he can even pick up a pencil and scribble out these “Remarques” is amazing to me. Yeah it stinks the quality isn’t what any of us think of when we think of Miller but when he’s gone the people who paid $250 for these drawings will be selling them for double that….and people will happily pay them.
